For decades, The Walt Disney Company was a pioneer in animation, creating some of the most beloved films of all time. From Snow White and Beauty and the Beast to The Lion King and Aladdin, Disney’s animated classics have shaped the industry and defined generations. But in recent years, Disney seems to have abandoned creative innovation in favor of an endless cycle of live-action remakes. Despite their massive budgets and nostalgic appeal, most of these adaptations—like Mulan, The Little Mermaid, and Dumbo—have failed to capture the magic of the originals. So why is Disney so obsessed with remaking its animated classics?

All these Disney live action remakes share several common denominators: unwanted, unnecessary and creatively bankrupt.

We made The Lion King remake a $2 billion dollar earner and its in the top 10 highest grossing movies of all time, we deserve being stuck in this remake hellhole. It'll take a lot of flops for them to get the message so I'm pulling for Mufasa to fail....

To be fair, Cinderella remake is pretty much the only Disney remake I've liked so far and rewatched it quite a lot. It felt like it's own thing rather than relying heavily on nostalgia. Not to mention that everyone in the ensemble cast were pitch perfect in their roles. That ballroom scene has more soul and heart than most Disney remakes

Can it really be a downfall if there wasn't a peak to begin with?

I wish Disney would start making Hand-Drawn movies again. Yes, they could maintain making computer made movies, but at the same time have an studio that made hand-Drawn movies.

No one EVER asked for Disney live action remakes. Especially when the animated films are so timeless and iconic.

Maybe it was a mistake to completely abandon traditional animation.

If it's more CG than not, it's not live-action.

i hate how they keep trying to blame it on sexists and racists. Those people do exist but nobody hated Will Smith as Genie because he's black, it was because he wasnt nearly as good as Robin Williams, people love Will Smith in general. People didnt hate Mulan because of an Asian cast, even in China the animated Mulan was loved and the original cast was mainly Asian. People didnt hate the Little Mermaid because she's brown, they hated it because it looked like a shitty remake of the original.

8:23 I've never seen the live action Mulan and when it cut to the tank for a split second I thought there was an actual tank in the movie and I just didn't know.

4:56 The interview where the director claimed live action Mulan wasn't a superhero was funny since there's a scene where she jump kicks an arrow through an enemy soldier's eye.

Cinderalla actually wasn't that bad, it's just they've put less and less effort into them each time.

Great video! Two things though: 101 Dalmatians (1996) really needs to be in this conversation because its success is arguably the reason these remakes exist. Also, The Little Mermaid is an example of audience fatigue with the remakes, not their financial success. $569 million feels like a lot, but with marketing costs and everything considered, it was actually a financial LOSS for them.
