Here is what women should follow when fasting:

Those who have a regular cycle – Do not fast the week before your period.

Have an irregular cycle? (peri-menopause, on birth control, or PCOS) – if you find signs that your progesterone is not enough, like anxiety, depression, extreme hunger, trouble falling asleep, migraine then it might be time for you to take a break from fasting and look into hormone-building foods and give your body a break.

Don’t have a cycle? (post-menopausal) – if you don’t have a cycle you will need to step out of fasting at least once or twice a week. You can do a minimum of 13 hours or less or no fasting at all.

5-1-1 DIET VARIATION:

5 days a week of intermittent fasting
1 day of 24 hour fast
1 day of hormone building day

NEW VARIATION: 4-2-1-

4 days a week of autophagy fasting
2 days a week of IF with 13hrs and hormone building foods
1 day a week 24 hour fast for estrobolome (ketobiotic/animal based)

I would love 1 video just focusing on menopausal women to have time to address hormones, insulin resistance, weight loss, and fasting in more detail. What works, what doesn't. Macros? Protein? Natural supplements that help...etc, etc, etc 😀

A video specifically just for "post menopausal" women please!

I started fasting a month ago (68 yo woman), mostly doing 18:6 and I love how easy it is. I've lost 10 lbs. I've totally quit all snacking and alcohol and have been walking more (4-6 km/day). If fasting only made me feel better, sharper, happier, I'd be thrilled. It does all those things and as an added bonus, my drenching sweats have totally stopped. My doctor had told me that lots of women sweat after menopause and it's normal and not to worry. Boy was he wrong. I'm sleeping so much better too. Thanks for the guidance Dr. Mindy.

I just started reading or rather listening to your book, “Fast Like a Girl.” All I can is, “Wow!” I tried intermittent fasting a few years ago and it did not work for me at all. I am 61 years old and have been saying that I will not do that again. It was interesting to hear you say that we as women, need to fast differently from men. That makes complete sense to me. I’m planning to jump in for 24 hours. I’m excited about the possibilities of so many health benefits. I’ve been struggling for years! Thank you so much for your insight!

Please do a separate video on just post menopausal woman. Many of us out here that are having more difficulty than others as there is just not much info that gives the kind of detail we need to have a successful fast . Thank you in advance.

Great info. Thank you. I've been fasting officially for 2 years. Just turned 62. I've lost 95 lbs in that timeframe. I'm now balancing out and seem to be pretty much maintaining. Overall happy. I do pretty much similar to the Weekly Variation you mentioned. I fast for about 16-18 hours for 6 days and one day I don't even think about. And then typically once every couple of weeks I'll go a full 24 hours. It seems to work well for me and considering that almost 10 years ago I was 170 lbs heavier then I am now, I figuring I must be doing something right ;)

I want your book, 81 yrs. old, been intermittent fasting for yrs. But cheating on flour and sugar recently 😮, more committed than ever now. 36 hrs. fasting right now. Feeling great, I get lots of exercise: tap dancing, 3 bocceball teams, yoga, much gardening, rain was my excuse for not walking but commitment has brought me back to lengthy hill walks. Belly fat has remained stubbornly present. Had success a few yrs. ago, so here I am again with determined commitment. Thx for your help, Dr. Mindy. Ann Sheridan

Wow I can't believe the amount of pushback I just got from releasing a short video talking about the benefits of fasting. Someone immediately commented that it was misinformation and somebody else immediately liked it. This is the crazy world we live in where people won't even look into something before putting it down. This is what you're up against! keep fighting the good fight, mindy!

Thanks Dr. Mindy - a very interesting new concept to me (women and men having different fasting needs). I'm 74 and was diagnosed with breast cancer on my 70th birthday, I'd never smoked, I don't drink alcohol, I take moderate exercise, had no history of the disease and was told the cancer was bad luck... My husband at the same time found out he lacks the enzymes to deal with sugars and lactose, so after my treatment we both needed a reset. 15 months ago we started 18/6 daily fast, and dropped carbs to at or under 50gms a day. I love it. The inflammation in both our bodies has lessened so much, and even gout's a thing of the past for my husband - he gave up dairy, I added more dairy. My weight 's now in the normal range, down 20kg, I go to gym and life's good. I'd recommend fasting to everyone :)

Dr. Mindy, I really enjoy your videos. You speak to me as a woman, where other fasting experts, who are male, skip over these important details. I am a 55 year old woman and had a total hysterectomy at the age of 48. I’ve been doing OMAD Monday through Friday, Saturday is typically 18/6, and Sunday is a free for all. I have heard it’s good to change up fasting, but I didn’t know why until now. You are truly a gift and I appreciate you!

5-1-1 thank you! There are many nuances it seems to intermittent fasting. As you mentioned progesterone a red flag 🚩 came up for me. As a breast cancer survivor of 10 years hormones are definately an issue. I'm so thrilled to have found you Dr. Mindy! Cannot wait to continue deep dive.

I'm 45 years old and I started fasting and got pregnant last year! Although the pregnancy wasn't on my agenda, I'm glad my son was born healthy. I got tubes tied after him. Now I'm ready to start fasting again.

Thank you Dr. Mindy. The information you share in your videos has been invaluable. I'm 56 years old, but feeling ancient and unvital. I started intermittent fasting about 2 months ago and already feel so much better than I have in a long time. I feel capable again.
