I own an Ipad 9th Gen and been using them with the Apple Pencil 1 for uni for nearly 3 months now, the laminated display doesn’t bother me at all when writing and the price is also pretty affordable for a uni student 👍🏽

After having owned and used both the Mini and full sized IPads, I think that many (if not most) students would be better off with the new basic IPad. It is an amazing value, and it’s the one I bought for my daughter to use for college. But I chose to buy a Mini 5 for myself. I spend a lot of time “on the road”, and the Mini 5 (with a keyboard case) makes a great little mini laptop, one which is far more practical for me than a full size Ipad would. My IPad Air is now relegated to my computer desk, where it is hooked up to a monitor and used for video editing. Which IPad is best? As you pointed out, it all depends!

I would prefer the iPad 9th gen over the iPad mini 6 as a student because it gives you more value and the iPad mini’s A15 bionic chip has power you actually don’t need as a student. This is just my personal opinion 🙂

I went with the 9th gen in Silver this time around, but if the iPad Mini 6 was cheaper at like $399, i think I would have gone with it. $450-$499 was a bit too steep for me since I already have the base Model M1 MBA but wanted one of the non-pro ipads for basic stuff and media consumption while lounging in bed.

I’ve had a regular size iPad and mini and honestly the mini is the most comfortable and perfect size tablet imo it’s the best choice tablet to get especially if you are only using it for a tablet only

Perfect timing haha. I’ve been binging videos because I need an iPad for taking notes/doing math homework college. The mini would be better in cost after factoring in the accessories/apple care. But I’ve heard of how small it is and how hard it’d be to write for hours long. I was also debating on just getting an old 2018 ipad pro with 64gb since it was around the same price. The reasons I wouldn’t get the iPad is the non laminated display and the pencil 1. I already have a mac air m1 so I would just need an iPad to write a ton with

I’m watching this on my iPad . I can definitely say it is worth buying.

iPad 9 and 1st gen pencil was $368 street price. Whereas, iPad Mini 6 and 2nd gen pencil would have cost me $628. I went with the former. That said, I did contemplate the iPad Mini 6 for quite some time before going with the iPad 9. I think the 9 was the right choice for the intended use case.

This is a great video. I learned a lot from what Apple has done to improve the Basic IPad which is great! I have several iPads and my newest is the Mini 6, Purple 64GB w/cellular. I mainly bought it as an upgrade from my iPad mini 5 and I love the on the go and full screen.

five years ago, I watched one of your videos about taking notes for school using iPad and five years later you’re still making videos from students perspectives . I just wonder about your job. Do you work in a school or something?

Thoughtful review. I'm a writer and when I travel I use an iPad ( version 5) with a Logitech keyboard case rather than my laptop. The form factor is much smaller than a laptop, the battery life is great, and the keyboard (although small) is useable.

However, I'm thinking about getting an iPad Mini to replace my aging iPad. Why? Because I don't do a lot of serious writing when on vacation and I mostly use the iPad for reading and media consumption. I think that I can gain some packing space in my personal item bag by using a Mini, even if I bring a folding keyboard.

As a side note, I was sorry to see that the new iPad (although better) is so much more expensive than the iPad 9. I know that both are available, but I think it can be assumed that this choice will be a temporary option. My daughter works with technology for our large school district and all of the primary kids get an iPad (the district has over 16, 000 total students). Not only is the cost of the iPad 10 significantly more expensive, but there is no headphone jack! Guess what, kids in school use headphones. I don't think that the district is going to spend even more money to buy each of them AirPods. I asked my daughter if the district would be concerned about kids losing tiny earbuds and she told me that a greater concern was kids eating them!

Great review, thank you! I've been using iPad mini for years and love the size.. I bought the iPad mini 6 as the battery is going on my mini4.. but I much prefer how the 4 feels in the hand and there really isn't much of a difference in terms of display and speed for things like web browsing. I'll return the mini 6 and either get a new battery for my iPad mini4 or get the iPad 9 as it still has the smooth edges.

But one major difference is laminated and non laminated display, how it may affect the writing experience especially when taking notes.

I have a 2 and a half year old base model MacBook Pro so I can live without a larger iPad. I currently use an iPad mini 5 but I’m seriously considering upgrading to the 6

Great video! I have subscribed. You did not mention how the stylus charges. I have an iPad Pro 12.9 and the Mini 6. I was looking into getting a second Apple Pencil for the Mini so I don't have to keep remembering to grab my pencil from the pro when I am on the go. This sounds like a better option to save money but still get something that is close to the Apple Pencil. Thank you for suggesting it!
