I was reluctant to buy fish for my mum because I thought I would end up buying the wrong one. Asian mums love fish curry. Thank you for these tips I now know how to tell if a fish is fresh or not.

I'm from Malaysia and these are the exact ways my late granddad taught us on how to pick fresh fish. It's really awesome how these know-hows are similar across the world ❤️

I grew up in a fishing village and I’ve just got to say, he nailed the “tell-tail” signs.

Looking for red hills and red eyes the same things my parents taught me as well. These are important things to look for when we have to use the fish for offerings as well as not letting them descale and clean the fish.
I didn’t know about the feeling the body. Thanks for sharing!

Great video. The only thing is that you have some fish markets that have their fish behind glass where you can’t touch it.

These are all correct and as an asian daughter, my mum specifically reminded me not to over press the fishes, ppl tend to press too much and that made those fishes look as if they were not fresh quicker than it should

Memories of my Mother dragging me shopping (being the oldest) & being told how to know what's fresh & what's not. She sent my uncle once. Never again "if I knew what market sold common sense I'd buy it all up & give it to you! How can you not know?" Both grandfather's were vegetable wholesalers. She still brings it up decades later. "Why doesn't he know? Your Father knew!"
