As a mere mortal YT viewer, the more clickbaity the title and thumbnail, the less I want to click on it. It has got out of hand to the point that the title and thumbnail don't even reflect the content of the video at all.

The "get your income off of YouTube" is actually a really insightful thing you don't see a lot of creators talk about in terms of not only the financial benefit, but also the mental health benefit of not having your income tied to a measure of success of something you love that's ultimately out of your control. Great video!

I watched the lesson video immediately. It is, sincerely, one of the best blues lesson videos I've seen. I bookmarked it right away to work on this weekend. Adam Levy is a real musician. You are a real musician. People don't realize how privileged we are to have access to this information, related with such patience and care that anyone can understand it and incorporate it into their practice. For those of us who remember how hard it was to obtain information like this before Youtube, it feels like being let in on a secret. In fact, if you had told me 25 years ago that one day I would have instant access to the wisdom of Adam Levy and other musicians of his caliber I would have assumed it's because I had died and gone to heaven. I get that some of your videos need to be about helping some company sell gear, but your live performance and lesson videos are about growing the garden of good music, and that's all anyone should care about.

Here here, Rhett, well said! I have felt (feel) the same pain. Keep at it dude, LOVE your channel! xoxo

Rhett, near as I can tell, the algorithm has changed. I’m not getting videos from channels I subscribe to recommended to me like I used to. I have changed nothing on my end. Something is up with YouTube’s algorithm. Is anyone else seeing this?

I really admire you for sharing this in such a transparent and human way. Hang in there

Honest conversation can seem like such a rare find these days but when you stumble upon it, damn it's refreshing to hear. Thanks Rhett and keep rockin' ! Love your content.

That Adam Levy video was, literally, one of the most helpful videos for blues improv that I’ve seen recently.

Hey Rhett, this is great insight. I also hate the "YouTube face" -- the mouth hanging open in fake shock that something could actually do something/not do something that somebody else said it can't/can do. When I see which YouTubers have sky high subscription numbers, it really makes me wonder what the key to success is. For me, I appreciate your basic, straightforward style of presenting information. You seem like someone I'd like to hang with.

It's the age old problem. As soon as we try to make a living doing something we love, it screws up why we started doing it in the first place.

It bums me out that YTers have make these silly thumbnails and titles just to see any engagement, but I’m glad you’re open about this issue. Love the content. Cheers.

This is profound advice. A lot of people don't realize the amount of work that goes into making content

I love your videos and you input. I am a intermediate guitar player and search videos about things that pertain to me, my playing, and things i want to learn more about. I really dont give much thought into the thumbnail, but i can understand its importance. Keep doing what you are doing. I hope it works for you so you keep doing it. But it helps me out alot.
Thanks for doing what you do and dealing with those frustrations. It helps. It helps alot of us.

I saw the video before you took it down and really enjoyed it. As a beginner/intermediate guitar player, I thought you both did a great job explaining how to start soloing in a blues jam. So sorry that YT does not recognize the time and effort… 😢

This is the perfect way to sum it all up Rhett. I've been trying to make my channel work for 3+ years and it's not taking off despite the audio and video being stellar, the info being accurate, and flow being smooth, they just aren't being shown to people.

Content Idea: I'd love to hear your take on the "spaghetti western" guitar sound. To me, those are some of the most iconic guitar riffs of all time. Would love a deep dive in the history, the players, and gear they used

Rhett, this is perfectly explained. I have yet to yank a video, but admittedly tinker with title and thumbnail to an obsessive degree. Now, the plan is to make the shift and not rely on weekly videos to make a living. Cheers and thanks for a great vid

Even monster budget movies have to worry about titles and thumbnails. It ain't just YouTube. Cheers Rhett!

Here’s a shout out to say I have learned so much from you, brother. And I continue to do so. The new blues course is really accelerating all the stuff that I already know and I’m good at. You bring a lot of enthusiasm to the game and it always translates. Keep up the great work.
