Why does everyone hate YouTube Rewind 2018? | ABC News

Just a week after its release, the latest installment of YouTube’s Rewind video is about to become the most disliked video of all time on the platform. So why has it provoked such strong reactions?

The fact that you reference Ariana Grande and Avengers as “success on YouTube” is the whole reason people are upset. Uploading a clip to YouTube of an already hugely popular property is not the same as home grown content. Like seriously Avengers is the most viewed on YouTube and *all other social media sites* . It’s insulting to combine the numbers from Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube and then act as if they represent YouTube. All this video proves is mainstream media shouldn’t be anywhere near YouTube because they don’t have a clue what the community wants. The YouTube community is what built the site up to what it is, they deserve to be represented. Not viewers who come on once a day to check out the latest trailers or music videos.

Because this YOUTUBE rewind was filled with TWITCH STREAMERS and actors who barely have a footprint on YouTube. All while PewDiePie the biggest YouTuber on the planet wasn't even asked to be on the rewind.

For people not really in the loop about why it's disliked:
*1. Non-youtubers being heavily featured*
Ninja is active on twitch, he only uploads highlights on youtube for extra cash. While that's no wrong in that, reuploads really doesn't warrant a spot in rewind since just about every major twitch streamer do that. Will Smith, nice guy but not a youtuber. Talk show host doing fortnite dance? Well, that's definitely no go zone.
*2. People who have done pretty much nothing gets featured*
The video features safe-for-work that's so safe it goes into the zone of boring, including youtubers who haven't uploaded in month.
*3. Too much Fortnite*
Imagine if you go to the end of year party and everything's Fortnite themed. No matter how much you like Fortnite it's crossing into the cringe zone.
*4. No real rising youtubers, no event coverage.*
Shane Dawson pulls in 10-15 million views per video, literally beating some of Netflix's new releases in views. No mention whatsoever. Logan Paul at the suicide forest, Tanacon, Pewdiepie vs T Series, none of that actual youtube historical event coverage.
*5. Anti-youtuber policies*
There has been many controversial systems introduced by youtube in the past including a reward system for you to flag videos before you even watch it, called Youtube Heros. The video received so much downvotes and eventually got pulled down. There's also system in place for big companies to copyright strike smaller channels to claim their video income if there's a 5 second sound clip that remotely resembles their content. Bigger companies get away with all those, a channel named after the organisation which supported the Armenian genocide, namely "The Young Turks" gets ads on all of their videos. If you want to picture that in a different perspective, imagine a channel called "The Hitler Youth" being able to make money on youtube.

Those two are just tip of the iceberg, so the dislike for youtube has been compounding very fast from 2017 to 2018.

People don't like it because they missed out on so many things that made youtube in 2018. This video was just basically a way to make Youtube appear like a happy family friendly place without the slightest bit of controversy, completely ignoring what its really about.

this didn't address at all why "everyone hated Youtube Rewind 2018". You didn't even bother to mention any of the events that have been very anti-youtuber like the adpocalypse for example. This video is a waste of time. Not surprised though coming from mainstream media, yet another reason why we come to youtube to be informed, which I suppose is why you used pew and ethan to provide the information.
