I can’t remember how many times I sliced my thumb open from getting it slammed on by the blade, Thanks for telling me what it was called, because I kept calling it the hospital Handle

Some things I felt worth noting:

There are different pin designs: tang pins, which are fitted into the blade and make contact with the handles; zen pins, which are fitted into the handles and make contact with the blade; and pinsless designs, which simply rely on the material in the handles to make contact with the blade.

Some balisongs do have latches, but most modern balisongs do not, as they can interfere with flipping by adding unwanted weight to one handle. If your balisong does have a latch, it can either be a standard latch, where you manually unlock the handles, or a spring latch, where you can just squeeze the handles together to unlock the handles. Standard latches are loose, whereas spring latches stick out from the handles.

I went to go upgrade to this knife. (I have been practicing for a month now and I am ready to get bit) then I realize that’s a whole days work for one knife. I’ll wait to get stitches 😂

Fun tidbit, it’s cool they named that blade “bone” the word “Balisong” is Filipino for broken horn, who originally made the handles from carabao horn, with an inner liner made of brass. At the risk of heated debate, being Filipino myself, Filipinos may not have totally invented the balisong, it’s likely that the original European (Spanish and French) sailors that went to the Philippines, carried these early pocket knives. The original balisong made with brass liner is evidence that this knife was likely a utility knife favored by the cannonball gunners to cut wick, rope, and whatnot, had the liner been made of steel, it would increase the chances of a spark when opening and closing, which is undesirable being around barrels of gun powder in a wooden vessel. Filipinos do get the credit for the knife’s name and popularity (i.e. notorious) reputation around the world as a concealed fighting knife.
