Michael was right, They’re all Saying he didn’t see Vinicius but that’s his job to know where the winger is at all times

that’s scary, imagine getting counterattacked and you look around in your half to see the damage that could be done, and in a split second you think…. “WHERE IS VINICIUS” nah man my heart would drop man is that dangerous

You have to give credit to Valverde. That was such an unorthodox pass. You’d expect a high cross but no, he gave a low driven pass that looked like a shot and was heading out but Vini was there to capitalize it.

Roberson was out of position trying to press Modric on his own half, so with the LB out of position the entire defense had to compensate the gap which widened the gap. So he opted for zonal marking but the ball from Valvede pierced the zone

Henry had the best breakdown. He knows that part of the pitch to a molecule.

The disallowed goal of Benzema had a greater effect than if it were an actual goal, it rattled the cage and alarmed defenders, even more, to tighten the screws around Benzema so he would have no chance of scoring again, by doing so they omitted to watch for Vinicius Jr.
Liverpool tactics were based on weak Real Madrid defensive lines, which didn't happen and Real Madrid came out as a fortress, they had no plan B.

After THE PSG win Jamie boldly said “this Real Madrid team will not win the UCL”

I feel like no one knew Thierry Henry played for Juventus under Ancelotti until he just said it here. That's a maaaajor throwback

For me, Benzema does a great job by not positioning himself between Trent and Konate, but rather between Konate and Vvd who was on the left covering for Robbo. That way, he’s dragged Trent too far inside to the point where Vini is unmarked. That being said, if trent doesnt stop and continues to drop back, he potentially cuts out the resulting cross

The pass made by CARVAJAL in the middle of the pitch @ 1:11 is what was the foundation of this goal …. It left 3 Liverpool players for dead right there and then … from that point a goal was 90% sure for these quality Madrid players. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

That was a difficult one for Trent. That flashed ball was perfect and Benzema’s movement attracted a lot of attention. As well as Carvahal’s overlap. Sometimes it’s not that someone messed up; it’s that the other guys played well.

No one talk about the beauty of this goal . More than 7 passes to achieve this goal.

At 1:13 you can see that Trent knew where Vini was, but Benzema Staying in between him and the defender made really difficult for him to stay close to the side, when Benzema moved up he pulled the defender and left Trent with little time to make any decision, for me Liverpool Miss play was at the beginning.

I see a lot of you never mentioned Robertson, the guy who kept getting pocketed by Valverde which eventually lead to a goal.

For me the major culprit is Fabinho, then Henderson then Robertson, then TAA

At 1:04 Liverpool is "gegenpressing" Modric I believe, 2 against 1, Robertson is covering the pass line to Valverde, Mane is closing in on Casemiro and there is a defensive square behind. Of those four, Fabinho has to close in on Carvajal, who is running between the lines to get Modric out of the gridlock. At that point Liverpool is 8 against 4 in the action zone. Fabinho is too far from Carvajal already.

At 1:06 Modric is feinting to be pressed back and Mane leaves Casemiro to push up the gegenpressing, probably expecting Henderson and Fabinho to follow and close in on Carvajal and Casemiro. But they don't.

At 1:07 Modric' pass to Carvajal takes out 3 Liverpool players, the two ones pressing (Thiago and Diaz I believe) and Mane. Now it's 6 against 4 in the action zone, counting in Benzema and TAA. This is not the fault of Thiago or Diaz but Fabinho's, who's not completing the pressure on Carvajal.

At 1:10 Fabinho "bites" with Robertson still covering the pass line and Thiago giving negative pressure. Henderson is too far from Casemiro which allows Carvajal to make the better choice of passing to Casemiro, rather than playing into Valverde's space, because Van Dijck is there too.

At 1:12 Casemiro now has a free pass line to Valverde. Look where Carvajal is: behind Thiago, Robertson and Fabinho. He outruns Thiago and Robertson (who doesn't really make an effort) with Fabinho admittedly recovering his position. Now it's 4-4 in the zone of the action, with Vinicius coming into the picture.

At this point it's already very difficult for both Van Dijck and TAA. Van Dijck needs to deal with the overlapping Carvajal and Valverde, TAA is still backing Konaté for Benzema, while Vinicius is in his back. Fabinho is giving some negative pressure but that's of little value at this point.

Probably TAA should have left Benzema to Konaté, counting on negative pressure by Fabinho and Henderson, and turn to Vinicius. But 8 seconds have passed since Modric was being pressured. That's quick thinking you need there to leave the position which is full part of the gegenpressing maneuver.

Lat but not least, you must admire Modric and Carvajal to take out 2 men successively to go from a 4-8 to a 4-4, and Valverde to deliver a perfect pass, to Benzema to confuse the defence with a feint offside and Vinicius to stay onside and unmarked.

Full backs should mostly try to stay ahead of the last CB. Vini would have been offside if Trent was ahead of Konate. But it's a very small margin. At the same time Trent should be aware of attackers behind him

They are being soft because TAA is the media darling. If this was a less popular RB, they would absolutely destroy him. Yes Robertson made a mistake, but still TAA was definitely at fault for not covering Vinicius.

Thierry Henry's analysis is spot on. It's a shame he couldn't turn and produce all that knowledge and tactics as manager/coach. I'd love to see how his brain works as a forward..it's honestly a shame..SIGH

The pass had pace, which meant that Trent had to anticipate it. He was actually in a good position to stop it, but I really don't think he realized that Vini was on his back, and I think that is an area of improvement. Still, Real Madrid did really well in creating overlapping runs, there was potentially 3 passes to give at that point. A pass to Benzema which was equally threatening but is extremely difficult due to offside, and a fast pass to Carvajal but Van Dijk had that covered (also the follow-up play would be a pass into the box to Benz which has a good chance at being intercepted by Allison); and the last pass which was a gamble and it was beautifully distributed to Vini.

So far Valverde looks to be a promising midfield generational talent.

But in my opinion, the correct play was that Trent should've played it offside and paid closer attention to Konate. Konate, was closely watching Van Dijk who also tried to play offside.

The moment I saw Modric pull 3 men on him I knew Real were probably going to score. What a player in creating that opportunity, all the Real players played it virtually perfectly, unlucky Trent is the scapegoat bc the defensive line was exposed easily on the left as well in the buildup.
