This build in the parking lot was one of my favorite episodes.

I've ran 3 different sbc 406s with stock cranks and my shift point was 7500 rpm. Never a problem.

Turned a totally stock bottom emd 350 7200-7500 for several years nearly everyday never skipped a beat iron crank stock rods stock cast pistons.

Glad you guys are still doing this stuff, nowadays everything thinks you can't make power without a "coyote " or "junkyard LS with ebay turbos" lol

Why does Pat look so... INTENSE when he's starting a dyno run? It's almost like... he ENJOYS thrashing on these motors... LMAO... seriously, love the content. I always seem to walk away entertained while having learned something.

I ran a 350 stock cast crank in NHRA supper comp class for years at 7200 RPM in the lights run after run, stalled 5200 launched, shift point at 6500 RPM, ran through the lights 7200 RPM, that is a 2000 RPM variation start to finish line. in a 210 inch front engine dragster. this was in the 1980 to 1990 very low $ operation not as of todays cars makes no sense to run 8.90 ET.

I race a Street Stock asphalt car with a stock cast crank, pink rods, 9:1pistons. I turn 6800 all night long . Motor is 3 years old and runs great.

So cool! Little small block that could! Ed Cole would be proud I’m sure.

Few years back I built a mild 358cid with a mid 70's 4 bolt main truck engine. Studded mains and stock rods with ARP fasteners. I skimped on pistons and rings and just used Sealed Power stock replacement cast stuff. I would tickle 7000rpms with it occasionally, and never had it whimper once. It was making around 350hp and 400lb.ft. of tourqe. Nothing fancy anywhere, just a true roller timing set, Melling HV oil pump, hardened pushrods and Comp magnum 1.52 ratio roller tip chromoly rocker arms. 462 camel hump heads and a 230° .480 lift Elgin flat tappet hydraulic camshaft. Weiland Stealth dual plane Z-28 style intake manifold with a Moroso 1" plastic 4 hole spacer and Holly 4010 750cfm carb. Ultra reliable and you could really let lt scream if somebody tried to mess with you. Had about $3800 into it.

360 mopar cast does it regularly, has been doing it, stock block chev factory blocks good for about 450 hp.

"the cam only has a few hours of dyno time, no big deal" - I've used roller cams that's had thousands of passes and years of use, with hardly no wear. As long as the cam was well cared for and something wasn't beating the shit out of it, you can use them forever.

As far as E85 goes, I buy it at the pump for $2.30-$2.80 per gallon (in my area as of Apr. 2023), then test it and mix whatever is needed (either Ethanol or gas) to make sure it is E85. Much cheaper than buying E85 "race fuel" ($8.20-$9.50 / Gal. in my area as of Apr. 2023). If you have a source for good Ethanol in your area for cheap, you can even mix your own E85 even cheaper.

My questions is... Yes, making big power with a stock block and stock "cast" crank on a dyno chump, but how long is that thing going to last in a heavy drag car on a transbrake? OK, let's forget the transbrake, how long does it last in a heavy car (say 3200lbs), 1/4 mile at a time? My guess would be, not long!! So yes, fun on the dyno, practical?... probably not.

We use E85 from the common gas pump for our Circle Track 358. We Haven't noticed any gains from race E85 to the normal pump E85... we did notice a large $ savings using Pump E85 vs Race E85 and especially against 112vp race fuel.

That's a very nice SBC.

Y'all might throw on a Moroso 21015 oil pan on it and pick up quite a few ponies.
