HOW TO: MAKE SBC POWER WITH BASIC BOLT ONS (305, 327 & 350)

Показать описание
HOW DO YOU INCREASE THE POWER OF ANY SBC WITH BOLT ONS? CAN YOU ADD POWER TO YOUR 305, 327 OR 350 SMALL BLOCK CHEVY WITH PERFORMANCE HEADS, CAMS AND INTAKES (CARB AND HEADERS TOO)? SURE, EVERY SBC RESPONDS TO IMPROVEMENTS IN FLOW FROM BASIC BOLTS, AND HERE ARE THREE PERFECT EXAMPLES OF WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU ADD BOLTS TO YOUR SMALL BLOCK. THE GREAT THING ABOUT SMALL BLOCK PERFORMANCE IS THAT THERE IS SO MUCH TO CHOOSE FROM, AND COMPONENTS TO FIT EVERY POWER NEED AND BUDGET. FULL DYNO RESULTS AS ALWAYS!

305 is a great street motor. Thanks for showing us that.

IMO sbc is the most important engine ever made. Also my favorite and choice over anything else. No school like old school just the sound, smell and feel of a good sbc is like prom night for a virgin lmao!

The 327 made more power especially past 5600. Impressive! My dad still talks about how his 327 would pull past the 350s since he could wait to shift at 7000. I guess it was not all BS

I would love for you to do identical 302/305/307 engines with TFS as cast 175 heads and hydraulic roller and roller rockers. I think it would surprise a lot of people. They are sbc and will all respond about the same. Different bore/stroke ratios. And don’t go crazy on the cam specs. These should be street friendly easy to drive with a standard shift.

WOW, some serious gains there, 100 hp gains is nothing to joke about. I will be 66 in December and when i was barely 16 someone a few streets over got a 64 Chevelle and he dropped in a nice 327/365 then put on headers and a Torker with a 780, back then AL heads werent even a dream except i think the L-88? That little 327 would run strong and yes rev high and he had 411 gears so i think it would have been in the 13's? You're 327 modern upgrades added an extra 100 hp so that will definitely be felt and seen in times and MPH. I had a 67 Camaro and dropped in a 427/425 so your little 327 bested that easily.

Richard, do you remember Chevy used to sell late 60's/early 70's what they called ANGLE PLUG HEADS? Supposedly the idea was to use with at least 11 to 1 comp. or more and helped with flame travel over such huge piston domes? Do you know if they ever worked better that the straight plug 202's?

Really enjoyed this I have an le9 305 in my 85c10 and honestly that has been a great motor. Mated to a th350C and 3:42 rear I've done a lot of pulling with it and the power is great. Planned on cam and intake to buy time for the ls swap (6.0/6.2) and 4l80 but something about that little le9 just makes me love it. Think specs is like 220hp 230tq so no slouch

I pieced together my buddy's .040 305 with stock 58cc heads, ram horn manifolds and a holley contender dual plane intake, 600 cfm holley and a .450/.455 crane cam, I forget the duration, but it's a mean little sbc. That 305 coupled to a TH350C and thrown in a little 65 Stude 4 door burns rubber down the street and kicks the car sideways when it shifts from first to second all while keeping you planted in the seat.

Would be cool if you could make a video of bolt on performance for a 5.7 mercruiser (350 SBC). For all the boat people like me.

I would still REALLY like to see someone take a 110 HP Olds 260 and do some custom work to it just to see how much it can make. I had one in my 76 Skylark sedan and it only had 34k miles on it with a Rochester 2bbl and even when it was in the negatives with a foot of snow on the car, you'd pump the gas twice, turn the key, and it would fire up on the 2nd rotation. That was one of my most reliable cars that I've ever owned and it was given to me. I could get it up to 80 on the Turnpike and it would just cruise. It took a while to get to 80, but it'd do it. It also had ice cold air conditioning and it would heat you out in the winter.

Had a 327 bored 60 over with some double hump heads. Solid lift camshaft in a 70 chevelle Malibu. And man that thing would Rev. It sounded like a big block stroker coming down the road.

Step 1... Heads, cam and intake.
Step 2... Boost
Step 3... Replace rear tires

I'd love to see. 305, true flat tops no valve reliefs, stock 906 vortecs, 9.5 to 1 compression and boost with a cam to tie it all together. Nice low budget detonation resistant build

My 305 has 320, 000 miles on it, it's getting tired but I want to reward it with a refresh.

I have a 400 and it's really hard not to make power. It's fun.

Somebody told me long ago....an engine doesn't know what size it it, what parts it has inside, what brand or color it is, what planet it's on, what the brochure says it should do, what car it's going into, or what kind of fuel it's ingesting or if a power adder is connected. It does know at this exact moment I can do this with that. More fuel = more power, if the airflow is better, more power, if the exhaust is better more power, if ignition can ignite the fuel at that moment in time, it will continue to run near peak potential ect. That somebody was Jim Kinsler, Kinsler Fuel Injection, Troy Michigan 1983. A very interesting and smart guy for sure.

I've tried bunch of cams for 350s and The absolute best budget mild to med street cam is the Howards hyd flat tappet "max torque" 112031-08, it's .480/.480 - 232°\232° with a 108 lsa, very broad power band good low rpm Tq and nice top end pull and a sweet rough idle, power brakes with no auxiliary vacuum cannister and not optimal but you can get by with an stock converter or little better a v6 converter but a few hundred over stock would be best. A 2500 rpm stall was deff not necessary.

You should build " The 350 Chevy Should've built" 400 block bored over .30 and destroke it with 327 crankshaft. Comes out to be a 352. There's an old article on the whole build includes all parts.
