This is the most American guy I’ve ever seen, I’d be in shock if someone said hello to me as i was walking down the street. Good on him

I’m from Sweden and lived in San Diego for a couple of months, and it was really culturally different that random people would talk to you on the streets. Kinda liked it ngl, in sweden people would think you’re crazy or drunk if you acted like an american.

The hardest thing for me in Japan was keeping my voice low and not talking to people unexpectedly. I’m Canadian it’s a habit of mine to always do small talk 💀💀💀

I found saying hi to people in the big cities people will find it weird, but say hi to people outside the big cities and it will make their day

Edit: the replies here really showing people's true nature lol

If you’re a tourist, just own it. Don’t try to blend in, it won’t work and just makes things awkward. People can spot a tourist and understand that. Of course be respectful and follow the rules, but you don’t have to try and act japanese.

This guy is kind to have kept his grandfather's wardrobe from World War 2 & stayed in Japan to troll the hell out of them

“The language and the culture is so cool” -if you say hi to them they think you’re crazy-

I fully agree with him about learning Japanese before going to Japan I've been working on it so that when I turn 50 I can go to Japan and treat the culture with the respect it deserves

Tokyo is just a mega city like New York but even bigger and more dense. If you say hello to randos in New York they’d look at you weird too. Outside of Tokyo they always greet eachother.

People think Americans are fake for their friendly behavior, but I would say for the most part they're not. We live in the same society, in the same area, what is so wrong nodding or smiling at someone and just saying hello? it isn't fake. I'd like to think I made someone's day a little brighter by being friendly...and when people are friendly to me it makes me happy too.
