Difference Between Navy and Air Force Pilots? #shorts

The rivalry between Navy and Air Force pilots is a friendly one, based on mutual respect and admiration for the skills and abilities of each branch. While there may be differences in the aircraft, mission, training, and culture of each branch, the pilots who fly for them are among the best in the world.

Whether you prefer the high-performance fighter jets of the Air Force or the versatility of the Navy's aircraft, there's no denying that both branches of the military have some of the best pilots in the world.

Whether or not Navy pilots are better, their job appears more difficult due to the fact they operate off a ship... And have to LAND on a ship. Personally, I lean Navy, due to my family connection. My late stepdad flew TBM Avengers off the 2nd USS Yorktown, CV 10, against the Japanese in late"44 through the end of the war in "45. He was in Tokyo Bay to witness the surrender ceremony on September 2, 1945.

Navy pilot can land on regular land based runway, but could a air force pilot simply go out and land on carrier off the bat??? Food for thought

Wrong question. The Navy doesn’t have pilots……they have “Naval Aviators”. The Army does the same (I was an Army Rotary Wing Aviator and we trained Marines in helicopters) so I assume that is the same for the Marines. The question of who is a better pilot revolves around mission. Naval aviators work in fleet defense, ocean attack, and near shore land attack. Air Force is large area defense (think mainland USA) and deep penetration against heavily defended targets. There is overlap of course but mission decides aircraft and pilot skilled. The Army is about supporting the guys on the ground but I note that the first air strikes in the Iraq war was by Army AH-64’s against the Iraqi forward air defense systems to keep the stealth aircraft from being detected at takeoff. The missions blur and determine who gets what roll. Best is always conditional.

Landing on pitching boat will always be different Aand more difficult than landing on land… ALWAYS

i've found navy pilots more well rounded than airforce pilots but both are very skilled in their field

Of course Navy pilots are better… after battling the enemy they still have to land on an aircraft carrier in the dark, middle of nowhere which in itself was very difficult and it take skills to achieve that..

With the exception of the F-14 Tomcat (the Phantom doesn`t count because it was flown by three services), the USAF always had the more exciting planes.

This topic can be broken down to each branch's demonstration teams. The Air Force team (Thunderbirds) are in my experience seeing them is a more in your face crazy shit is gonna happen type of show whereas the Navy's (Blue Angels) is more choreographed and precise in their demonstrations. Like the different between landing at an airfield compared to a pitching carrier deck.

They have exchange programs. My wing commander had over 500 carrier landings. So they both can do each other's job. The pilots the USA has are simply the best of the best.

Well then there's this landing on a ship moving at oh like 40 knots in the middle of the ocean. This moving object also swaying and moving up and down side to side in the swells and eb an flow of thr ocean. I've always said both USAF & USN & Marine Aviators are the best in the world. However the carried landing and all that comes with it gives the USN/USMC pilots the edge. The amount of skill wits precision and pure guts it takes for this type of not only landings but takes offs again gives them the 1st place trophy so to speak. My 2 cents.

Thankful for all our service members and their families!

The navy likes to land like they are on a Carrier deck, even when shoreside, taking it out on the landing gear much more than the Air Force does. 🤪

Landing on flat and level ground with long runway length verses a pitching and rolling deck of fixed length, at night. Definitely very different skill sets. 😎

That's my old squadron I used to work for. The Pukin' Dogs! I've probably worked on that bird in the video.

Another moot question.." who are the best technicians, the navy or the airforce"?

The super hornet and the F35 are extremely capable platforms too my friend. Just because they are both poorly modeled on DCS, everybody thinks they are no good. People who know, know. I like to get my info from former Navy and current Navy mouths.

Look..it boils down to the individual pilot., !

There's no point having an independent air force if the army navy and marines all have their air forces doing exactly what the USAF is doing

While the Navy pilots land on a moving, rocking and a rolling postage stamp in the middle of nowhere.

BTW, AF has attack aircraft as well.
