How to clean up and dry out after you've had a lot of rain in a house in the framing stage.

Huge thanks to our Show sponsors Polywall, Huber, Dorken Delta, Prosoco, Marvin Windows, Roxul & Endura for helping to make these videos possible! These are all trusted companies that Matt has worked with for years and trusts their products in the homes he builds.

I've watched quite a few of your videos, and can appreciate why you do what you do now! You're an inspiration to the rest of us, and I appreciate your commitment to Christ! Love your videos and may God bless!

Great tips Matt. Here in NZ if the bottom plates have been left to soak up moisture during winter when humidity levels are so high. It can take weeks to get them back down to acceptable levels again. Also when using the short prong moisture meters. The needless need to reach the middle third of the timber for an accurate reading. So it is important to test timber through the face rather than the edge and get those pins right in.

One important aspect not covered - joints, especially those between the sill plate and the subfloor. Water is trapped extensively in these areas and must be a focused point for drying since they are inaccessable by air or any means of assessment. Heat (not too much) and time are your friends prior to finishing.

Thank you Matt Risinger for the scripture and asking for prayers for the people who went through the Hurricane. As someone who had to completely remodel our house after the 2004 trio we were hit with in Port St. Lucie FL we know full well the heartache and long process to rebuild. We sustained $275, 000.00 worth of damage and it took 22 months to complete due to materials and labor shortages. Unless you have lived it you can’t fathom how hard it is. We spent 22 months as Missionaries going to New Orleans after Katrina donating our time and labor to help them. We are no longer physically able to do so due to age and injuries but please know you are all in our hearts and prayers even now. Thank you for being willing to share your knowledge with others. I’ve been building for well over 40 years and you still teach me things which I love.

I’ve watched a ton of your helpful videos. This is the first time I’ve seen a scripture quote. It was a pleasant surprise. I appreciate that.

Just now watching this video. My dad and I are building my house debt free, so things aren't moving as fast as a professional builder by no means. We've had some rain on and off and I've been worried about my framework. I'm so glad to hear you quoting that scripture at the end, Matt. Puts things into perspective for sure! Thank you so much for having the courage to speak truth, even when you know not everyone who watches this will agree!

The more I follow this cat, the more I like him. If I am ever fortunate enough to win the lotto or have an Uncle I don't know about leave me a big sack of coins, I would love to work with Matt and have him build me a home and YouTube the entire build as a show. Dare to dream...

Hi Matt. My house was rained on with osb flooring 19 days out of 31 in May and few days in June, I see osb changed its color to dark wet, in some places I see green mold, but builder says it will dry and will be ok. How ok it is in your view, you are ultimate authority for me in anything related to construction of homes. Thanks a lot in advance! Moisture reading in some places still show above 15% and sometimes even above 20% with some mildew and green mold traces still present, not increasing though. The lumber on the other had is fine, dried pretty much to acceptable level, even though some changed color to dark, probably also mildew...

What's sad is that here in Canada, many home center lumber yards are outdoor, so those nicely kiln dried lumber are again soaked in rain water. Some of them wrap the piles with plastic, but hey, once you open the plastic, the lumber are either soaking wet or moist, no where near dry. I don't know about in the US, but I think it's time to pay attention to how they store the lumber. It's extra effort to dry the framing, not to mention when some studs dry, they twist, which adds even more time to plan it down before finishing with drywall.

Advantech is the best. It is worth every penny. It puts normal OSB to shame.

Matt! I do not have the vocabulary to express how I applaud you commitment. Many Christians still do not accept the courage to simply stand by faith and express themselves without attempting to make a point. A life lived as directed. Well done sir!

And as always, great information! Really enjoy the blog. I have enjoyed watching it evolve. Better every week!

Just when I thought you couldnt get any more awesome, you drop some scripture at the end. Every amazing house you build is done properly and for the glory of God. Thank you

Matt, thank you so much for sharing. I work in the Kingwood area at a church that was literally just a few blocks away from the rising waters. Our community is seeing so many emotions, but the thing sticking out to me is watching people help who have been flooded themselves. These guys are so determined to help over here! Thanks again for sharing, it was a welcomed suprise. I closed the video early but heard you sharing scripture right before it closed and opened it back up to see what you were sharing!
