We went hunting last year to find nothing in the wild. When we got home from one of our shroom hunting trips we actually found one in my back yard! LOL I hadn't tried growing them but I did fill a couple holes my dogs dug with ash from my fire pit, and some grass clippings. Also it was under an apple tree that I don't usually rake up the apples.

Though they are growing in a garden they could stand some compost it looks like. It is handy that they have grown them that way but the weeds choke them. They are like hearts that can add to the numbers of options for a feast. I would like to plant some edible mushrooms at some point but I don't think that this would be my selection. I would plant some for an experiment with using mushrooms in replacement for bread.
In northern climates the components of bread, wheat, corn and grains can be difficult. I noticed that the shape of some mushrooms reassembles a loaf of bread when sliced and I am very interested in primitive survival so in order to avoid the import of materials to make bread I developed a theory that the primitives might have used mushrooms as a bread.
You see that in northern climates it was difficult to survive on their own and the import of bread making would have been difficult. Of course they could hunt Whales and fish but civil order has created regulations prohibiting the harvest of whales to their extinction.
So in nature it is likely that we would have hunted them to their extinction. But I am not going to get into the issue of protective civil regulations. The point of it is that the issue of food insecurity in a northern climate is an issue. Thusly my experiment with mushrooms for a primitive replacement for bread.
Which brings me to yeast and the capture of it for harvest. In the northern climate not only mushrooms which are a fungus can be eaten but also natural yeast can be harvested and also bacteria. There are a number of natural probiotics which can be used to treat immune and digestive disorder.
