Morel mushrooms have been coveted for centuries, and it's been long said that whoever figures out how to grow them will become wealthy. Although a handful of people seem to have figured out how to do it, morels are still mysterious in the ways that they come about. #morels #shorts #mushroomgrowing #mushroomedu #fungi #science

They just showed up in our free ground cover chips this last spring. Hope they come back!

Apparently "the back yard" is as far as we needed to go to see this particular mushroom.Kinda flattering that it chose to grow here.

It was figured out in the 80s. You could by a grow kit at the supermarket.

In the wild, they grow under elm trees (and under Chinese elms in my yard).

If you can befriend a local arborist, you might get fresh logs for growing mushrooms on.

You can already grow the large yellow morels (morchella esculenta)

I saw this short about four hours ago. It wasn’t anywhere else; I just looked up sclerotium and went down a rabbit hole. Anyone have any recommendations for reading material here? This actually really helped getting a better grasp on groupings of fungi.

maybe one can gene edit them to produce fruits more often

Just freeze the substrate for 48 hours to induce fruiting

There’s a patent on how to farm them. Who knows what they found out before hiding the info

I’m currently growing my second harvest out of a mushroom spawn bag I don’t get many per flush but get about 4 to 6 flushes per bag. And I ain’t a millionaire, not by a stretch lol

Actually you can grow in grain and then inoc. The prepared ground and keep moving your sub bag. Building sclerotia is the most important part of the process.

People who tell me I'd be a millionaire if I figured out how to grow morels always bother me. First of all if I was able to grow them All of a sudden the supply would be a lot higher which means a price would go down so I wouldn't be able to sell them for as much as people think after the first year or two years of them on the market. Second you can't grow enough mushrooms to become a millionaire by yourself, you'll have to teach people your techniques and strategies, and even without breaching intellectual property laws you could easily replicate the growing process after having it taught to you by just tweaking a few things so it's not exactly the same in areas that don't matter for fruit body development. Basically if you could figure out how to grow morels and you didn't want everybody else to figure it out too, you would need a team of lawyers and a ton of money just to get just to get the business started if you don't want to risk other people figuring it out, and if you don't do that other people will figure it out and you won't make enough money for it to be worth it
