Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer who is credited with the discovery of the New World, which is now known as the Americas. He was born in Genoa, Italy in 1451 and began his career as a sailor at a young age. Columbus believed that by sailing westward, he could reach Asia, which was then the center of the world's trade and wealth. He convinced King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain to sponsor his expedition, and in 1492, he set sail with three ships: the Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria. After a long and difficult voyage, Columbus arrived in the Caribbean and explored the islands of the Bahamas and Cuba. He returned to Spain with news of his discovery and made several more voyages to the Americas over the course of his life. Although he did not realize it at the time, Columbus's voyages had a profound impact on world history, leading to the colonization of the Americas by Europeans and the eventual development of the United States of America.

Despite having a long and astonishing history, the history of Christopher Columbus is not as “amazing” as we think it is. Columbus was a ruthless pervert. Columbus and his men raped and killed hundreds of native women. He even sold girls as young as nine for sex slaves. He killed native people when they didn’t produce enough profit for him. As the news of his ruthlessness came over to the Spanish crown, he was stripped from his position of governor. It is believed that he killed over two hundred thousand natives at the time.

I thought everyone knew how ruthless he was… He didn’t even discover the Americas first, the Vikings did

Absolutely. That hack only got famous because the same guy who wrote Sleepy Hollow wrote a fanfic version of Columbus's story in a collection of stories that eventually got passed around as truth.

This is human history. Like it or not this is what happened. Question all you like, it should still be taught in school.

Imagine the president telling you, take this ship go across the ocean and do as you please with no judicial consequences. To many of us humans nowadays would eventually do the same things, do not underestimate your own capability of evil..

He killed 200.000 natives. How long was he in the Americas for? How many people a day does that equate?

Columbus was (most likely) a terrible person, but that doesn't change that he is the reason the European powers learned of the new world when they did. History should still be taught.

It's kinda surprising how some people still didn't realize how awful of a human he was, he didn't even discover as America

This may be true, but people act like native Americans were all good people. Yet they raped and pillaged each other often and without reason. Columbus found more land for Europeans. And had more justification. Every flag and race has spilled a little blood.
