Imagine if this had come out during virtual AP tests.

Thanks for the idea. Here’s a ballad to Heimler’s History AI just helped me write:

In Heimler's history, a tale is told,
Of brain cows and folds, and a grandpappy most bold.
On a noble quest he rode his trusty steed,
With a beard so long and a bald head to lead.

Heimler's beard was his pride and joy,
And his eponymous fanny pack held all he'd employ.
But ignorance came to plague his land,
Threatening an A in the class and a 5 on the exam.

Heimler fought with video noteguides in hand,
And rode forth to the castle of man-eating-dragon.
With melodious birds singing his praise,
Heimler bravely fought through each and every phase.

At last, he emerged victorious and free,
With review packets in hand for all to see.
Heimler's history is one of bravery and might,
And his legacy lives on in the tales we recite.

So let us all raise a glass to Heimler's name,
For his bravery and courage, we'll never forget the same.
Of his digital tales we treasure and hoard.
Thus we shout, “Long live Heimler!” of one accord.

This is insane. I knew that AI was getting advanced, but writing whole assignments is next level for students like me. I will probably use this to study for the AP exam.

On the flip side of this, it also does a decent job of coming up with *questions* for history content & practice. I asked it to generate some questions using just the title of a unit and time period ("Write some free response world history questions on the topic of transoceanic connections in the period from 1450 to 1750 CE.") and it gave some decent starter material.

You were using the wrong AI too. The one you used was the untrained generic GPT-3. The new ChatGPT is their newest model of GPT-3.5 and is specially trained for these kind of complex question and answers.

I think you should make your own prompts and feed it to the AI. AI programs are created by "training" them with tons and tons of data from the internet, so if these SAQs were from the internet, the AI was probably also fed real example answers to the questions from various test prep websites. I think with a totally original prompt, you'd be able to truly see what this AI is capable of

This video is a change of pace to your other videos yet still focuses on this curriculum. I liked your reactions to the AI. Have a good day!

I mean this seems like a really good study tool for how to write responses to different types of questions.

I expected it to write grammatically excellent/well-formatted answers, but to also completely make stuff up in the details (kinda like the Tom Scott AI title generator video), but this far exceeded my expectations...

When it comes to AI being used as a studying tool, I absolutely agree. I wonder if this type of program could be used for AP Stats FRQs (assuming you could feed it both the questions and the given information)?

Hey Heimler,

I first watched your videos during Covid era and took 9 AP classes throughout highschool (I'm now a sophomore in college, time flies.)

During my time in University, I switched to Computer Science and Economics as my two majors -- what's crazy is that AI is even getting to the point of being able to code... flawlessly. I think your point about using AI to learn is great, as it can help with learning how to code as well. It's surreal to see a computer doing what it does. Perhaps ironically the Computer Science major won't have a job... due to... computers...

I’d love to see a follow up video with the bot trying more difficult questions(LEQs) because it can do a lot more than you think.

I’m currently attending college and when I did my AP exams this would have helped for sure. I ended getting all 4’s and 5’s but this would have helped me a lot in terms on formulating well written answers. I always knew what the questions on the AP tests where asking and understood the concepts I just struggle with writing since I’m not from the U.S. but in the end we still passed and did well on the AP exams.

It's amazing seeing how far AI has come in the last few decades.

Funnily enough, my AP English teacher noticed me typing one of the articles we had just read into the AI, and I explained to her how I wanted to see how well it would do with the creation of a thesis and making supporting arguments (it wasn't cheating, we had done it ourselves a few weeks ago), and she asked to see the result it generated! I wonder what score it'll get.

You are a god send my friend. I wish there was another teacher like you for physics. I'm completely drowning

This is an ai written poem to show appreciation.

Heimler's history, oh so grand,
A treasure trove of knowledge at hand.
From ancient times to the present day,
His lessons always have something to say.

With passion and flair, he brings the past to life,
Making even the dullest history rife
With excitement and intrigue,
Heimler's history is never dull or oblique.

He takes us on a journey through time,
Showing us the events that shaped our world and our minds.
Heimler's history is a true delight,
A treasure to be cherished and a source of insight.

So if you want to learn and be entertained,
Heimler's history is the place to be trained.
His lessons are engaging and thought-provoking,
Leaving us with a newfound love of history and all its workings.

One thing to mention with the cheating is that if students consistently use AI for answers they are never going to learn how to properly answer these questions themselves. They are then going to have a very hard time on the actual AP test (even if it's the digital bc there will be a lock down browser). Really have to emphasize in my class that we are learning skills, not just facts, and these skill translate to more than just school.

4:40 to give it the stimulus too, justiterally paste it in before the question and maybe tell it it's stimulus

also i asked the question you tried asking it at the end about changes in federal policy regarding civil rights and it said

"It is difficult to determine which specific approach, legal challenges or social movements, is most effective for changing federal policy in the area of civil rights, as the effectiveness of these approaches can vary depending on the specific context and the goals of the individuals or groups involved. Both legal challenges and social movements have been used successfully to bring about changes in federal policy in the area of civil rights. Legal challenges involve using the legal system to challenge laws or policies that are considered discriminatory or unjust. Social movements, on the other hand, involve organizing large groups of people to advocate for change through activities such as protests, boycotts, and other forms of public action. Both of these approaches can be effective in bringing about change, but the most effective approach may vary depending on the specific circumstances and the goals of the individuals or groups involved."
