I am not ever interested to pay monthly for a game. I’ve had a free wow account for several years now, and I love it. I’ve played with so many different races and classes and just have multiple level 20s.

I always thought the Troll starting area was underrated. Really beautiful area and great voice acting

Personally, I think it's time for wow to just go full on f2p, akin to swtor, because with how much the last few expansions seems to have turned players away from wow, why should blizzard still force a $15 a month sub onto players? If anything, allow players the ability to hop on and play to whatever max lvl the expansion they have access too gives them, and then allow, say, raids up to 2 expansions back to be fully accessible to players, and if said players wish to run the new content, they'll first buy the expansion, and if they wish to do more than just the world stuff, will pay a sub to access the newest raids, dungeons, and access more than a few battlegrounds each week.

I got around 12 days (288 hours) on a single race as a f2p player.
Shadowlands opened to me so many quests and possibilities... I have completed all Kalimdor quests, soloed so many donjons (my main is a hunter, and it's quiet easy to solo a donjon as beast mastery, just have to spam the pet healing and have a lot of haste while hiding behind your invincible pet like a coward), gather the pillars of creation in legion, do nearly all the quests of TBC and Wrath and others...
And the best is that there are plenty of other quests I can still make. Passing from level 130 max to lvl 50 max was the best decision that has ever been made about the game.

Once I played 20 lvls for a hearthstone skin. And Holly hell it was awful. Linear, nobody can join you. I remember playing in a burning crusade pirate server years ago, and it was fun. And once trying the official demo it was boring.

I'd rather get the expansions for free and pay monthly.
But the game loses players slowly and I think getting to play for free and only pay for the expansions, would get more new player to play.

F2p got even better since we can do dk and dh.
Personally I enjoy f2p experience since legion pre patch and I can't be more happy.
Now with the new system we got also purple gear and Legion artifact.
Outside it there are a lot of things to do, gearing up for pvp, pve, quest on every zone outside the new one, darkmoon faire, mount grind, being ambassador, explorer, professions etc.
We got even chat for new player that let you chat with others 20s (before wasn't available).
Just a ton of stuff to do for free.

Haven't played since 2013. Just started a free Undead Hunter today and I noticed the game does seem way more stream lined and engaging in the starting zone.

I always enjoyed the Draenei and Blood Elf starting zones but they are getting a bit dated at this point.

Good news! You can play as Demon Hunter :D so the only thing blocked are allied races :D You can play PvP but there is a problem with that -> gaining exp while PvP makes you lvl up to 20 in 2-3 BGs and when you are 20 you play vs lvl29, you get scaled up but gear and skills are too big of a deal :D

the best free to play model for wow is to have all the content free up to the second to last expansion. So the level for old content is 1-60 while the upcoming expansion, dragonflight, is 60-70. Basically, leveling 60 free levels is the hook; from questing to dungeons to pvp and etc will encourage players to buy the latest expansion and subscribe. Seriously, the community will eventually talk to the free player about the latest expansion and reel you in. I quit wow around the first year of shadowlands, but if a free to play model comes out to level 60 and all the content associated with it then it might make me a subscriber eventually.

All I do in WoW these days is play random BGs. I realized earlier this year that I really don't need to continue to purchase game time to continue doing what I enjoy in this game. I haven't brought game time since February 2021 now. The only downside I guess is it takes a bit longer to find a BG at level 20.

But I have a strong feeling that Blizzard is going to put more restrictions on starter accounts sometime in the near future. I'm seeing more veteran players playing on starter accounts than ever before.

I think the only problem of the trial version is that we can't make groups or join guilds. I think that we also can't join battle grounds anymore. I would enjoy the game a lot with my friends playing as starter edition If I could.

This is actually a fantastic option, especially if you're limited on play time.

About the no party required argument, there are many quests that require a party to complete

Meh on the months I don't have enough to pay for game time, I just play on the PTR. It's free and it has pretty much the whole game. Some features are not available on it, like the PTR/Guilds and raiding is a bit more difficult. But as a solo player, primarily, it's good enough for me

I unsubbed from Shadowlands about a year ago. I'm enjoying level 20 PvP more than I enjoyed level 60 PvE in Shadowlands.

It's definitely more beginner friendly now than back in Cataclysm

I think wod was the last time we could f2p .
then shadowland for the timewalk thing but still the abilities became more limited than before.
anyway good times were from 2010 (cata time as f2p) and mop (peak f2p community) and wod was the beginning of the fall .
farewell good times as f2p.

The free trial of subscription MMOS tend NOT to be worth playing.
