I do my best to teach you how to easily diagnose problems the fastest, quickest and most efficient way with real repairs beyond just replacing a spark plug. These tips are for both the homeowner and shop owner.

Whether it be a handheld, two stroke, two cycle engine like a chainsaw, weed eater, weed wacker, string trimmer, grass trimmer, line trimmer, hedge trimmer, strimmer, brush cutter, leaf blower, or four stroke, four cycle units like a lawnmower, wood splitter, lawn tractor, snowblower, pressure washer, generator or a ride on mower that needs parts installed or replaced, I’m your go-to guy.

My favorite brands of spark plugs are NGK and Champion and are the ones I recommend.

I’ve been a small engine mechanic for many decades and also run my own repair shop so my videos are loaded with tips and tricks that I have learned and want to share with you. You will also find many tool and product reviews from top brands on my channel as well.

Wow Don! You intentionally did what all of us absolutely dread and loathe, multiple times (!) just to show us very thoroughly on camera. You're amazing. Thank you very much. This must have been an aggravating video to shoot! 😸

This is why I love YouTube. Thanks a mill for taking the time to show how this is done. Saved me a massive headache and gave me the confidence to pull my starter apart.

Don, I was about to throw my old lawnmower away. You replaced that recoil spring so smooth that it calmed me down while I followed your instruction. Thank you for being clear and concise and saving me $500! A Drink is on me!

Wow, I can’t begin to imagine just how many people you helped by making this one particular video. So many of us have experienced this same nightmare like scenario with a rope pull spring and you calmly, patiently took us through multiple options of getting it fixed right!! Thank you so much!👍

Great video as always. I've found it easier to rewind a spring by placing a washer on each side in the middel and claming it in a vice. The vice will hold the spring end and allow just enough clearance to rewind the whole thing, on turn at a time. Then use a nail to hold the spring in place until you're ready to install it on the engine. Small pointed vice grips work well on that part of the job.

Perfect. Rope broken and spring bent a little. You not only saved me purchasing a whole new rope unit but countless days on my construction site without power. Thanks so much!!!

Boy, you sure made that look easy! You can tell you’ve had many years of experience. Thank you so much for posting this video. These are the nightmares that happened to all of us every so often. Most of the time the equipment gets thrown away instead of being fixed. You’ve saved us all a huge amount of money and headaches. God bless you. John.

I've watched multiple videos on doing the recoil spring before I found yours, which is by far the most straight-forward and clear instructional I've found. You make is look easy! Thank you.

I'm so glad I found this. I needed to replace the pull cord on my Predator 212. With typical male bravado I dove in eyes wide shut. Before I know it there's no more recoil even though "I swear I didn't touch that part". I took off the 10mm bolt to inspect the error of my ways and nearly caught the coil spring with my teeth. Defeated I retreated to the warmth and found this video. Cannot recommend enough. It's apparent that Don either really knows this equipment or like so many others, he's had it go very very wrong and has had to learn the hard way. In either case, thank you Don. You helped make very short work of that job... which is good since I used the wrong type of rope and get to do it again; it broke off in my hand on the first pull.

Don, I *just* finished semi-Restoring my 78(?) Chrysler SnoRunner & I decided the pull cord had like 2 more pulls tops left & said ugh lets replace it. Everything was no issue until the spring. Theres TWO slots you have to line up the curved ends in & its just "impossible". That tip at 5:00 saved the day. You Can't buy much for these anymore except from some clown. *THANK YOU x100, SIR!*

Thank you sharing your techniques, tips, and tricks! About 30 years ago I worked for a small engine repair shop; that was my only experience replacing starter ropes. We had custom tools that fit the wheel, and we would just tension up the wheel and let it suck the rope back in. In my mind I thought "I know how to do this, I don't need this information." But while watching I realized I no longer have access to all those nice, expensive tools the shop had! I haven't needed them for 30 years, and now I know a way to do with out them! Stay safe up there, mon frère!

I’m working on an Eskimo auger. I like that you show & work through what goes wrong when the spring gets loose. What can happen in the “ real” world . Good video 😎
