Knowing how to remove or take off your hub caps can really help you from having to buy another wheel cover! In this video, we will show you the correct way to remove plastic hubcaps, which accounts for most hubcaps on newer model vehicles. As we showed you in a previous video, there are three types of wheel covers: pop on, bolt on and screw on, and which one you have will tell you a great deal about the right way to remove them from your car or truck.

The main difference between these types of hub caps is how they are held onto the wheel: it can be by clips (pop on), real metal lug nuts (bolt on) or fake plastic lug nuts (screw on). By watching this video, you are taking that step toward being not only self-sufficient but also your neighborhood's hubcap removal expert!

As always, please be very careful when attempting any of the how-to tricks shown in our videos, especially these. Unlike our other videos, removing hub caps can be a little trickier and can take a little more work and time but by no means is it hard to learn! By mastering these removal techniques, you won't be replacing your hubcaps any time soon because of improper removal or installation.

We hope that this video will help you when you want to un-install your wheelcovers and if you have any questions about what kind of cap is on your vehicle, feel free to contact us! Our staff is always standing by to help you with whatever you need, all you have to do is call us at the toll free 800-826-5880.

Loosen lug nuts on the ground first so the tire won't spin THEN jack up vehicle to finish removing lug nuts the rest of the way. Great video and nice little niche market you all have here with the hubcaps and all. Really cool you all sell pretty much any make and model hubcaps.

I thought you never raised your car before you loosen the nuts. The force used by trying to crack the nuts could move the jack and cause the car to crash back down to the ground. I always thought you cracked the nuts, then raised the car, then unscrew the nuts.

Very helpful! Didn't realize there were different kinds of hubcaps. I tried using my lug wrench to remove my hubcap lugnuts. Turns out, mine don't loosen. Broke off a fake lugnut! Just had to pry the hubcap off. Worked great! Thanks.

This is a great video. Thank you for uploading it. Before seeing this I could not for the life of me figure out how to get them off. Now that I have succeeded in getting them off I can throw a fresh coat of of lime green plasti dip on them. My Scion tc will surely stand out from the crowd at the sorority house. Thanks Brittany!

I greatly prefer wheel covers/hubcaps. They're easy and cheap to change, you can select from a variety of styles and the theft risk is much less than if you buy a great looking wheel. Also, wheels no matter how great they look in the begining, start looking old and outdated after awhile so you'd have to spend a thousand or more to re-invest in new wheels again plus the trouble of re-installing.

No flip flop sandals when removing hub caps, rims or the entire wheel! But other than that, Good job Britney!

And why don't they teach this *useful* stuff in school? Things that adults actually need, like basic car maintenance and basic repair jobs (ie change hubcaps, change oil, switch a flat out for the spare...) instead, we get algebra and how to find the missing variable x in a triangle. Well, those are important for *specific* jobs it's pretty useless for anyone who wouldn't be in those careers. Car maintenance on the other hand is something every responsible adult could use.

Ok so for bolt on hub caps is there a special kind of lug nuts that you use? Because I just cracked my new ones for my charger while tightening the lug nuts

I have some "wheel skins". Do those need to be removed when getting a wheel balance and rotation or fixing a flat tire? ...or should they be left on?

Not sure why all manufacturers don't just use the Honda style wheel cover that's held on with the actual lug nuts. Subarus come with a removal tool but even in the manual it says to just pull it off by the thickest piece of plastic. Even then, due to heat from the wheels, you're likely to break the inner tabs because they are so brittle. Use super glue and fiberglass to repair them. Mine snapped after less than 20k miles.
