How To Take Apart A Pallet and Remove Nails (2 Easy Ways)

This video shows How To Take Apart a Pallet and remove the nails in 2 easy ways and get free wood. I learn along with you what the easiest way to break down a pallet is and remove those pesky nails with the help of a few tools. First option is to use a pallet buster pry bar, and the other is to just use a hammer and knock the board out. Both ways will work but one is less labor involved. Also I figured out a way of taking nails out of pallet wood that is very easy. I use a reverse nail gun remover from Air Locker. Both links are below. It has taken me a long time to figure out the best and most efficient way to take apart a pallet and I thing now I know. I hope you guys learn something from this video and please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions.

I have been taking pallets apart with the idea to build a chicken coop. The pallet buster works well most of the time, but it is a workout. I need the exercise anyway : )I saw this video a while ago and after using a hammer and prybars to dismantle a bunch of pallets, I was intrigued with the air locker de- nailer. I just got Harbor freight's smallest pancake compressor (on sale! $69.99), one of their hose and attachment kits, and after looking at others, an Air Locker de-nailer. I work outside over a tarp and saw horses and use a fishing magnet to pick up the nails because they go all over the place. Always have eye protection!! The video now makes me nervous to see you doing this without goggles. Really! I now have plans to cover my garage walls with pallet wood, and to make and sell some things too. Oh, I'm 68, and a mom, and a semi- retired Anthropology instructor.

Have been in the pallet business for 19 years. Entertaining video. 40 inch used pallet boards sell for 20-25¢. Routinely. Watching people do things the hard way is always interesting. If for no other reason than to see what they come up with. If I disassemble pallets "on the side" I take apart at least ten and sometimes twenty in one hour. The hard part is picking up all the boards. Tools like that are generally designed to remove damaged boards from a pallet that is being repaired. Even so, not what I would use. Too big/bulky. Not really criticizing honest effort. Advice would be to find pallets that you can take apart easily based on the method you are intending to use. That will involve some trial and error. Lots and lots of variables. Watch a bunch of videos and you're likely to pick up some tips. Picked up a good idea myself from a female dismantling pallets promoting a brand of dismantling blades. She was using the same method and tools I use but with an additional tool that I never really saw a need for but does make it a little easier and safer. Always room to learn something.
