Is the NVIDIA GTX 1060 worth gaming on in 2023? I test it in Modern Warfare 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Assassin's Creed Valhalla to find out.

Test system is a Ryzen 9 5900x with 32gb of RAM.

I didn’t realize it was still doing pretty well on recent Gen games! I’ll have to pick up some more recent releases for my 1060!

I still rock a 1060 with a 3770 and it still works great for almost all games

My laptop is 6 years old with a 1060 and I’m impressed with how well it’s held up over the years. Got me thru my entire Army enlistment, and still rockin’. Currently plays DOS2 with it. Going to give BG3 a go soon.

I used to rock one of these cards, still very decent for 1080p with some settings tweaks. Not bad for a 7 year old card. Still rocking a GTX 1080 Ti rn and still enjoying brand new games at 1440p.

Death Stranding also looks heavenly and plays quite well, except for some random stuttering during the beginning of some cutscenes where the character goes from still to moving very fast (but it’s only for a few seconds and isn’t that bothersome)

At the end of the day it depends on what you want to play

Something is weird with this testing. Frames seem way to high, was watching some other videos and for Cyberpunk, it could barley get 60fps at 1080p medium with upscalers but you easily get 62fps on average? Same with RDR2, you get 39fps but others easily get into the 50’s… something is wrong with your testing or your card

What processor do u have it also depends on that

No, because average is arbitrary and historically devs for consoles will target whatever the 1-3% low FPS is in order to get a good experience. It's why 30FPS games are actually playable on console.

A solid 45FPS is better than an _average_ of 60 FPS. This is because of frame dips ruining the experience. Realistically, you'll want an average of like, 80 or 90 and lock your frame rate to 60 to avoid frame dips.

Playing on a 768p, playing indie games, yes it's more than worth it for me

There's more than a dozen different GTX 1060 video cards on the open market and all the ones with DDR4 and DDR5 video ram with less than 5 GB of memory are crap that barely play entry level gaming software. Only the GTX 1060 cards with 5 or 6 GB of DDR5 memory or higher can play medium settings for entry level games at best at 1080p resolution. Don't attempt higher resolutions above 1080p, because you won't get satisfactory frame rates.

Starting to smell burned plastic on Cyberpunk, but still hit my 50 fps in mid with mods. So... Really great good old 1060!👍❤️
