I take great care of our house spiders, i feed them flies and moths, they are a bit bigger than the one in the clip. They make excellent housemates, dealing with bugs and other spiders such as the pesky white tail and they keep to their little areas.

we have webs everywhere here. inside and out. we have one in the window been there for 3 years, she lost a leg in a fight when she was young, we always catch flys and put it in them, amazing spiders. they learn to trust you too. they come out and come grab the fly from your hand and run back.

Black house spiders are araneomorphs (advanced spiders). Some araneomorphs have parallel fangs as well.

My girls are Much bigger than the one you were handling... Ours get rather large around our house and I have a pet one in a fish bowl in our lounge room. She is still quite young only about 3 months. You said they live for about a year but in my experience they seem to live about 2 years. And a little longer when their food is controlled. I believe this is because you can reduce the amount of times they shed by controlling how much they eat and the less they shed the longer they live as far as I can tell...!?! Our latest pet has been getting a little more than our old bathroom girl used to get but that's just coz this one I can't actually see her in her web as she hides a lot more than our bathroom one did so I just feed her once a week regardless of how plump she is...!!!

Wow! You've got balls! I'm terrified of them! They're good for catching any flies that get in the house though.

I try to keep what they eat out of my house as well and the spiders themselves.

I had one crawling on me in bed the other night. Pretty sure it was a male looking for a mate. Freaked me out, but he didn't bite me.

Do they move into other spiders' webs or kick them out?

Cool vid, very informative. But, depending on the person, and whether or not the spider may have certain types of bacteria lingering on their business end, bites from these spiders have been known to cause necrosis. I know this from personal experience. Same goes with white-tails, most people think that they cause necrosis whenever they bite anyone, but it all depends on the person and whether or not they have a reaction to the bacteria on the spiders fangs, perhaps the venom plays a part too, in certain people.
I base this on the research I've done. Many people say that some spiders cause necrosis, others swear that they don't, all from people that have been bitten. Either there's a lot of people who have mis-identified what bit them, or the simple answer is that bites affect different people in different ways.
