The Sydney Funnel Web Spider!!! Found in Australia of course...

These intimidating arachnids boast huge fangs up to half an inch long, and a dangerous neurotoxin particularly deadly to humans… Without proper antivenin after a bite the venom has been known to do-in humans within HOURS. Yikes!

That said… since the Australian Reptile Park launched an ambitious statewide antivenin program some years ago there has not been a single recorded fatality due to a funnel-web bite.

What do you guys think? More spider episodes?

I remember being about 10, and going into the garden shed. One of these big boys dropped from the ceiling in front of me, stuck it's arms up, like hooks, and shuffled back in the shed and into the mess.
20 years later, I still have not gone back in there.

As a landscaper in surrounding Sydney area, I've dealt with these suckers countless times. These things feel no fear, most spiders run away from you whereas these guys run AT you. I hate them, but they're badass.

Everytime you do some gardening in Australia it's like a fight for survival

You know you’re on the wrong continent when spiders got bigger fangs than snakes💀💀

You can tell that it's dangerous because he isn't picking it up.

I've watched half a dozen of this guy's videos and at the phrase "here in Australia" all finally started to make sense

Isn’t it just amazing that we can take the venom of a creature like this, break down the compound into its most basic ingredients, and then synthesise an anti-venom using that? Amazing what science can do when applied in such situations.

You forgot to mention that the bastards are SO DAMN POWERFUL that they can actually BITE *THROUGH* YOUR TOENAIL

Yeah, most spiders here actually leave you alone if you leave them alone and are more likely to run than bit, but the funnels are ballsy little shits who will charge you if they feel like it.

They're ground dwelling spiders, meaning they don't climb up walls or hang from threads. Also the male is far more venomous and aggressive than females, during mating season they are highly active travelling through people's yards.

I sometimes wonder, straight up, why anyone lives in Australia

I live near Sydney and have never seen one of these guys in my almost 21 years of existence. I just see golden orbs, garden orbs, redbacks, cupboards, grasses and wolves.

"I'm coyote Peterson, and I'm about to enter the gulag zone with the Sydney, fuck no, funnel web spider in 3...2...1..."

imagining that sense that you should know tingling in the mouth and lips coming on as the venom takes effect is such a creepy thing to think about

These spiders aren’t found in residential areas. Residential areas are built in these spiders’ habitats.

Grew up playing in funnel web infested bush (port Macquarie). Making forts & climbing trees. One neighbour would collect them & put them in jars. I would never today. 😅
