Vitamin D, Immune System & SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) | Mechanism of Vit D Immune Regulation, Overview of Evidence

In this lesson, I discuss the vitamin D its immune system regulation, specifically with regards to how vitamin D can help protect against respiratory tract infections like SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19).

1) Brief Introduction to Vitamin D and SARS-CoV-2

2) Vitamin D deficiency and increased risk of infections

3) Vitamin D supplementation and protection against acute respiratory tract infections

4) Vitamin D and Immune System Regulation (including cytokines like IL-6)

5) Vitamin D and SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19), comorbidities and associations

3) Summary of some Remdesivir data in in-vitro and in-vivo (mice and rhesus monkeys) studies used in treatment of other coronaviruses like SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV

****EXCLAIMER: The content (ex. images) used in this lesson are used in accordance with Fair Use laws and is intended for educational purposes only.****

*DISCLAIMER* Although there has been a meta-analysis showing reduced risk of acute respiratory tract infections with daily/weekly recommended doses of Vitamin D, WE DON’T have enough evidence to say that Vitamin D is protective against SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) – WE ONLY HAVE ASSOCIATIONS/CORRELATIONS at this point.

***This video is merely here to PRESENT INFORMATION from the studies quoted in this video - if people have an issue with the data, I would suggest they read over these studies and contact the experimenters/authors****

If you supplement vitamin D, please get enough vitamin K2 (different from K1) to keep calcium out of tissues where it shouldn’t be.

TY! Whenever I'm explaining this to friends, fam
the importance of Vit D I get 1/3 of the way through
before my layman's explanation suffers its own cytokine storm of medical terminology/processes.
Now I can just send them your simple & straightforward video. :)

I have a high sedimentation rate for unknown reasons but all my doctors have been weak in cautioning me to take Vitamin D. I've just been told to just take it, not how much, or the action, of even the effects on my inflammation. When I ask questions they simply get annoyed and one doctor called me squirrelly. It's said, the lack of teaching patients get from physicians and nurses. Thank God for research engines who save lives.

This certainly reinforces what I already believe. I will share this. Thank you!

Remember:you NEED Magnesium to activate Vit D in your Body, so it wont become toxic when tanken bigger dose.

Great source, also don't miss similar properties of Vitamin D and Omega-3!

Well done. You seem to have supported your point well.

Vit D serum levels vary by latitude, weather, lifestyle, body size, body fat levels, starting serum levels, co-factor levels, etc. Therefore a single fixed dose given to a variety of folks will have a variety of results.

The most useful D variable versus any outcome is the serum level.

The next methodological issue is the outcome rickets, heart disease, etc. Each disease may respond to different serum levels. Rickets might be prevented at fairly low levels (e.g. 20-30 ng/ml) while infectious diseases might require much higher levels.

Since natural levels at the equator are 40-60 ng/ml, a safe serum target is 50 ng/ml.

The final issue is loading dose versus maintenance dose. Someone with a low D level will need a temporary high dose to raise their levels while a maintenance dose can be lower (Dr Heaney suggests 35IU/pound of body weight daily). The loading dose (see also Holick re "filling the tank") could be 10, 000 iu/day for 4-5 weeks, re-test, adjust.

If serum levels do not respond to dosing, then suspect a co-factor deficiency, usually magnesium. See also co-factors.

Cheers.

I've heard and did a followup on this . It is viable and one that I have always wondered why it has never been introduced by the Medical Industry?

10, 000IU per day for a year--my first year without my chronic bronchitis acting up or any incidents of flu or colds.

I've been taking 10, 000iu for a few years now and around flu time every year I catch something but the symptoms are much much less severe. I had flu about 10 x years ago and couldn't barely walk for a week. People in our office a few years ago, pretty much everyone came down with it and my friend got pneumonia. The virus just bounced off me. I went home one night got the shivers and had to go to bed early feeling sick then next day got up and was symptom free. D3 works absolutely. Now given the comments above, onto the main point. I'm convinced myself and the wife have had covid earlier this year. We had a cough solid for 3 x weeks, which felt like itchy cotton wool in the solar plexus and extended to our backs. No phlegm would come up at all but it sounded like there was something there. The taste in my throat was completely unnatural and every night after about an hour or so laid flat, I'd wake up and cough constantly for a good 10mins, to the point one night I had to hover over the sink with the feeling of going to be sick, but panicking at the same time. It did eventually subside after 3 x weeks of hell. The wife was coughing one night for 30mins non stop and was shouting what the hell is this, what is wrong with me. I truly believe that without D3 this covid would have taken us both down badly. A lot of money can be made when a vaccine is found for this covid, so why would we be advised to take D3 which is superbly effective and enhancing the immune system.

Hi there, thanks for the video. It would be very helpful if you link the studies mentioned in the description in future videos if its not too much trouble. Thank you!

I had suspected Covid 3 months ago and still getting fatigue, runny/blocked nose, sore throat, and insomnia. 2 weeks ago I found out that I was severely deficient in Vitamin D. Hope it's not too late for me.

"Trust me, I'm a doctor" goes the saying, but as far as nutrition, vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients and natural remedies are concerned would you trust a doctor that has only had between 10 to 24 hours over FIVE TO SIX YEARS in medical school on nutrition? Doctors are very good at issuing prescriptions for Big Pharma's toxic concoctions, but how many would give you information and help as in this informative video, and others like it on YouTube?

Can we have a source on evidence that vitamin D can reduce cytokine storm? In talking to my brother who is a researcher at St Jude's, he said there is great evidence that vitamin D can reduce chronic inflamation but the evidence for it reducing cytokine storms in particular is lacking. (incidentally he thinks 2000-4000 IU a day is still a very good idea as the risks of supplementation are extremely low and vitamin d deficiency is a wide-scale problem in the US)
