to anyone who hasn't broken into cybersecurity yet, keep your heads up.

I understand the frustration associated with seeking an entry-level position in cybersecurity. I graduated in May of last year and then took 6 month bootcamp that gave me a good amount of fundamental cybersecurity knowledge that my university just did not teach me, and I just obtained my Security+ cert last month and I'm working on getting all the core CompTIA certs before I go for my CEH or BlueTeam certs. I just kept applying regardless and fortunately got an internship this summer. Hopefully this will transition into something long term. Much luck to all of you! It is brutal out there!!

It’s a good thing you mentioned AI because most people don’t understand that AI still needs cybersecurity to ensure resiliency. As a matter of fact, OWASP has a list of MLL vulnerabilities. People, please do not sleep on security in AI! it is just as important as securing software apps.

I will say this coming from my last defense job in GCRC or Infromation assurance role, never stay loyal to these companies they will burn you out. Or they give you walking papers, always stay hungry and reinvent yourself. As well get certs outside of cybersecurity roles.

I graduated 2 months back on cybersecurity and computer forensics I’ve been searching for the job since last 6 months haven’t got any yet, but I’m improving my skills and I’m also planning to implement my own home server in coming week so that I can keep working on my skills through my personal home server

I have Sec+ 701 certification. After applying for many jobs, I got no job interview. Im leaving tech by the end of year. It is not job stable. I say to everyone, get yourself a plan b.

I graduated college in December, I’ve been job searching since November. I got a local job doing help desk. I lack experience but I study almost everyday with different resources. I have A+ Net+ Sec+ and Server+. I’m only working help desk to gain some experience and bide my time until I can get a cybersecurity job.

I'm not a Cybersec, but it seems there's a chicken and egg issue at hand when entry-level positions are peppered everywhere in job websites. My advice is to keep applying and sometimes getting your foot in the door applying for not-directly-related positions in cybersec companies and internally applying afterward is one of the best strategies I would come up with.

I broke into cybersecurity through a sys admin position for a defense position. A guy in the internal SOC left, and I volunteered to take his spot lol. I also have Security + and the Google Cybersecurity Certificate.

Thank you for the video, learned a lot! I've got a question. What other free Certifications can I do as a student? This is my second semester and getting my associates in cybersecurity but I also want to get Certifications.

Cyber security is a great field but companies want many years of experience. Creating your own lab and making projects may not count as experience. Best chance to get a job in this field is to either apply for a bootcamp that gurantees employment or network with someone who can send your resume their employer.

Would having a lot of non-cybersecurity IT experience increase one's chances of getting a job in a market this bad? Or does it need to be specifically cybersecurity? As a 53-year-old I have about 30 years (all crappy low-paying jobs though, sadly).
