Interesting on your knowledge on the history! You know much.

Medri Bahri state was subjected to ottoman influence at some point in the 16th century after the exhausting proxy war period (though there was resistance and early invasive attempts were repelled). I think ottoman subjugation (on the lowlands) lasted till close to the end of the 19th century and this had cut down trade flow to the highlands diminishing the power. Ottomans pushed for more islam in the low lands so majority of lowlanders are muslims in the current day, while this most likely wasn't the case before even today you'll see the importance of value that islam has to turkey, which tries to become the central figure head of the religion. The ottomans tried to go for the high lands in the early days of occupation in the 16th century and they actually managed to take siege around the administrative regional capital, but got the defeated by a joint abbysian medri force.

To let you know about recent developments.

The border war was caused by the TPLF in 1998-2001. Ethiopia was basicly taken over by this tiny group of tigrayan elites (TPLF) and the TPLF launched rockets at Eritrean cities when Ethiopian (ENDF) soldiers fled from the sudden 'preemtive' attack on their bases. So the TPLF leaders decided to attack Eritrea because Eritrea had so called gotten involved by taking in soldiers that simply fled. This clash with some leaders of tigray also has some historical context to it where the last bahre negash of medri bahri had gotten caputered during negotiations with a tigrayan war lord prior to italian occupation. While the two regional leaders worked together previously when battling the Egyptians whom were an EURO/US vassal at the time trying to control the whole Nile catchment. The betrayal of tigrayan warlords resulted in an italo take over opportunity, but they were overly ambisious by trying to go for the central highland aswell (abyssinia). Very interesting developments that happened in the time window 1870-1890. So is the recent developments.

So TPLF had proven itself not to be capable of caring for Ethiopia and they lost support as they worked together with EURO/US betraying the founding of the TPLF and the horn of africa.

Nice reaction you've made! Just one little correction about the genetic semitic influence. The semitic people did arrive roundabout 1000 BC and were actually direct ancestors of philistine people mixed the "sea people" according several genetic studies in the last 9 years. Also the time between the arrival of these Levantine people and the rise of the Kingdom of Axum was filled with the kingdom of Dmaat, which was placed in the highlands of Eritrea and the border region of Ethiopia. It was believed in the past that it were Yemenic people who mixed with the native people, but beside some cultural exchange between Eritrea and Yemen there is no hint or proof and considering, that Yemen was a even a part of the Kingdom of Axum this narrative is more than questionable. Indeed the oldest yemenic script, meaning sabaic, is even found in Eritrea

hi from Russia, the heat here is not bad, 27 Celsius but if you live in the arctic circle in Karelia, beside lakes, swamps and forests, it is so humid, moist and the mosquitos absolutely love it...
