A couple with one child restore a 500 year old barn on their parent's farm, to live in and have their Art studios integrated into this 7000 sq ft space.

BAFTA winning Grand Designs is widely recognised as the pre-eminent series on modern architecture and design in Britain. It was originally conceived as a documentary series presented by designer and writer Kevin McCloud that takes us into the heart of life’s great unfolding human stories, where ordinary families risk all to experiment with architecture, technology, and their own lifestyle.

Now in its 17th year, Grand Designs is one of Channel 4’s biggest returnable factual series and has grown into a global phenomenon, selling in over 100 territories. Apart from the TV series, the Grand Designs brand has also expanded to include books, a monthly magazine, architectural awards and a biannual exhibition, Grand Designs Live.

I love these two very creative people, the very clever home they’ve created, and their insistence on not caving to the pressure of conformity.

As an architect I think this is the best couple/building in your series over the years (Kevin included).

Both very cool people. I really like how Freddie knows herself, is honest and open about herself and accepting and okay with herself. She also knows Ben, and he her. Great build, very cool.

It is unconventionally charming and cozy but I can't get over the exposed bathroom and bedroom... the thought of poo plonks echoing for all to hear in the house 😅. They did a good job working with what they were given.

I can't remember any episode of Grand Designs I have loved better! From the dilapidated humongous barn to the end is an eye watering production! Let alone the design and personal stamp these two characters filled their home and work space to such perfection is outstanding!

I have a ceiling like that albeit on a smaller scale and cleaning it is a right pain. Dust and cobwebs paradise!

I remember this episode. Was always sad that those beautiful rays of sunlight would disappear once the roof was fixed.

In my most perfect dream this would be something I would do.

They didn’t buy the barn or the property. His parents gave them the barn. That’s a massive part of most budgets. Cry me a river “$650, 000 might not be enough.”

We, my wife, my dog and i, we have definetly to much room - 109 sqm! Plus nearly 45 sqm workshop and 45 sqm basement. Too much space to maintain it ;-)

Horrendous, opposite of art. If there was a court of art they would do life in prison.
