Hey, i noticed you may have connected the wires wrong in the program. Pin 13 is connected to npn instead of the button and the same thing goes with pin 12 which is connected to the button instead of the npn.
This might create some confusion, because you did the opposite on the breadboard, you connected de pin 13(Input) to the button and the pin 12(Output) to the npn.

Hi people, great tutorial, but i am having some troubles (sorry I am new with arduino)
i am using a transistor PN2222 and it is getting pretty pretty hot and the motor does not turn on.
could you give me some recommendations? Thanks for your help

so it works when i put a light where the motor should be, but the motor won't turn on, any ideas as to why?

I had everything set up, but the 1k resistor was too much. The transistor wasn't getting switched on. I tried a couple of 220 resistors in a series, but still too much. I even tried just one 220, still too much. It would receive signal until I took out the resistor from the output pin. I just hope I am not damaging the pin.
