I love tracking my increasing stream of passive income from dividend stocks on a regular basis. Over the years, my dividend snowball has flourished. Even when stock prices are down (a lot), my quality dividend stocks have experienced dividend increases, boosting my passive income. I'm excited to share why tracking dividends is so motivating, and why I believe dividends can be a great strategy to consider for the everyday investor.

0:00 Introduction
0:08 I'm filming at Disney's Polynesian Resort at Disney World, Orlando, FL.
0:18 TRACKING: I believe what we can track can only improve! I track dividend income.
0:39 KEY: I like to track passive income from dividends over time.
0:52 Passive income from dividends can increase in many ways: deploy more capital, dividend reinvestment, dividend increases.
1:20 I don't track my aggregate portfolio value too closely. I cannot pay bills (easily) with portfolio value.
1:35 I do track passive income from dividends regularly.
1:44 Check out the pinned comment for my Patreon.
2:00 Analogy: Fitness and dividend stock investing.
2:38 KEY: Zoom out and look at trends over longer periods of time.
4:12 DIVIDENDS Are For Everyone (For The People)
4:25 investors tend to worry about stocks and ETFs losing value!
4:54 Portfolio value can go down, even when income is going up.
5:38 I believe the S&P 500 has a lot more risk than the average person realizes.
5:40 The top 10 stocks of S&P 500 make up 32.15%.
6:02 Dividends are for the people.
6:20 STORY: I did not have the money to visit Florida in my early days. I did not have money to lose. I had almost no risk tolerance.
7:45 In my early days of investing, I did not have money to lose. But, I did have money to buy predictable dividend stocks like JNJ and PEP. I could see the income increasing over time.
8:35 IMPORTANT: Don't forget your early days. I don't want to take unnecessary bets. The strategy works.
9:43 The snowball is building! We have now come to FL two years in a row.
10:11 KEY: Don't give up! We Will all face setbacks.
10:45 Sometimes, I don't have money to invest. I just have to wait it out.
11:35 Sometimes, we have to stop and restart our dividend journey.
12:06 Track the steps of progress.

I’ve been a subscriber since the early days. 2 years ago I decided to make a career change and had to make the extremely difficult decision to sell a little over half of my dividend portfolio to fund my life while I went back to school. I took a screenshot of my positions when I sold and just took a look to see where they are trading currently. Most of them are up a significant amount in just a few years. While I’m upset I missed out on the gains, I’m happy to see that I made the right decision to buy the positions when I initially did. I start my new job next week and cannot wait to start rebuilding my portfolio to where it was prior to selling and beyond! Thanks for always being an inspiration Ian!!!

UTZ is now doing well Ian. I remember older days videos when you did videos in your backyard of your California home. Loved them as well.

Great video. When I started to take investing seriously tracking my cash flow became the most important metric. Net worth is secondary. My passive income increased every year, and that is repeatable and worthwhile.

One of the nice things about being diversified into both dividend and non-dividend stocks has been that when I needed to sell stocks to raise cash, I have my value stocks that are there for that purpose. My dividend stocks are much further down the list of what I might sell.

Question about the portfolio worksheet:

As it reinvests the dividend in the table starting at A40 the YOC is growing each year but the “new money” DRIP’s in shouldn’t be at that new YOC % rather the dividend initial yield.

The only way the YOC would continue for the DRIP money is if the dividend payout increases over time with no stock appreciation.

That makes drastic differences in the payout $ in later years of the projections.

Does that make sense? Am I reading the sheet wrong?
