Completing the Square - Solving Quadratic Equations | Algebra Tips
In this video, we'll dive into completing the square to solve a quadratic equation, specifically when the coefficient of x^2 is not 1. We'll go through a slightly harder example, demonstrating a preliminary factoring step followed by completing the square to solve. The process involves careful arithmetic, and I'll provide step-by-step guidance to ensure accuracy. Perfect for anyone tackling algebra and quadratic equations!

What You Will Learn

I wish I had a math teacher like you, who can explain quick, clear and to the point. :)

Where does the 1/2 come into play and why? Do I use 1/2 when solving every quadratic equation?

also i don't understand when you have 2(x^2-3x+9/4) how do you figure out that equals 2(x-3/2)62??/

Thank you so much for teaching me a different method to solving quadratic equations by completing the square. Honestly, my teacher makes everything so complicated and I could never understand anything...so hopefully I can get through tests and homework this semester!

yep, just divide both sides by 2 to create a new equation that still has the same solutions!

The dislikes must be from math teachers with students who'd rather go on youtube than sit through lecture. Thanks Patrick!

how did you factor (x^2 -3x+9/4) to (x-3/2)^2 ??? I know that he square 3/2 to 9/4? Can you give me more details about that part .. thanks

@xkuchex old people always complain about the new generations stuff. i will do it one day, and you will too. : )
but i agree, when someone complains about how useless youtube is, i know they are at least 50.

so all you really have to do is find (b/2) and then make it [x + or - (b/2)]^2 ?

Great and easy nice demo. I told me daughter to always check youtube when she needs help. She has hard time in Alg 2 and complainted alot about how bad her math teacher is on explaining topics due to his impatience, lack of positive attitude, and inability to make it fun for students to focus.
