I live in Toronto, Canada, and to rent a one bedroom is at least $2000.00 a month. Add groceries, cell phone, internet, etc, and entertainment, you need $3500.00 a month to live comfortably as a single person. This is why I am retiring to Vietnam soon.

Thank you Van for showing us subscribers on how much it is to rent a apartment in Vietnam. You are the best Van at giving us news on Vietnamese culture.

Danang is a beautiful area of Vietnam. Many wonderful things to explore. The cost outlined by Van is spot on! Though I tend to spend more on a personal level.

It's very nice to see our neighborhood on your channel❤ One note about it, the food here is expensive. To find cheap local food you should walk over the Nguyễn Văn Thoại street, or move 800 m to the west, to the area near the church

To give you a sense of the cost of living in Toronto, Canada: One-bedroom apartments near the downtown core can cost between $2, 000 and $2, 500 per month. (1450 to over 1800 USD and heading up) my phone was about 70 bucks once you added tax and that was a cheap plan (50usd). A single person. can possibly get by with 2500 CAD and month and higher (about 2k USD) but this is just getting by for a single person without being too hard up, but not living it up.

I live in Hanoi. I rent an entire 5 storey house (4 bedroom) for 7 million VND. We cook ourselfs, have our own bikes. I need around 10-12 million to live a good life here. Which is 400-480 USD.

Good content and upfront. I used your video about how to avoid scams to prepare my students for an assignment to record themselves talking with foreign tourists at My Khe Beach and give them your advice. Thanks, Van!

I was staying in the same area 4 months ago too, each night I ate at the street market on Tran Bach Dang from the very friendly skinny lady who always wears the 'non la' hat and bright yellow top... An indelible memory.

Da Nang is great, although we prefer the climate in Nha Trang. One thing almost all VLOG's miss is health insurance. There are some pretty good options and they are much cheaper than health insurance in the USA and other Western countries. Would love to see a video exploring insurance options. Keep up the good work 😊

Hey Van, your English is amazing!! You speak the Vietnamese northern dialect, and you learned English without any of its accent--that's amazing! Well done!

I really liked Da Nang. The people were so friendly and chill, i still remember how so many school kids were practicing a choreography in this big building and they all rushed to greet me when they saw me. And so many vietnamese women will ask if you're single when you're travelling alone :D They're so friendly and flirty, even to strangers. One time a friend group had a girl ask me to date her and her friends were video-taping it. It was hilarious. I felt so bad saying that i'm just a tourist and i'm not living here. I didn't want to offend her.

The only problem if you're a "visible foreigner" (i'm from south part of india, so i guess they don't see many people like me in vietnam) is that a lot of Grab drivers work as part-time pimps and will keep telling you about some "girls" (if you understand what i mean) and this happens like everytime i walk alone or go by myself. These kind of pimps also are on the side-street and they work near many beach areas (like My Kae beach). I saw some Asian guys bring these kind of girls to the hotel, i don't really like it, but not my problem.

Maybe it's not a problem if you live in a Vietnamese family friendly area, you can live a normal life and blend in more.
