Hi punter, I am a beef producer. I supply grass fed prime Angus supermarket/ export beef. In the last two years the best price for my beef has been $4.50/dressed or about $2.50/ live weight. Our share of the retail dollar is about 15 cents. In the U.S. ranchers share is about 30 cents, still not good . In my state there are just two processors/ wholesalers supplying supermarkets and small butchers boxed beef. I can’t sell direct to supermarkets or butchers, or even direct to consumers.The processors/ wholesalers( just 2 here) control the industry. I know that they have received 10’s of millions of state and federal money to reach this stage of dominance and control, buying up and shutting down previous smaller abattoirs and wholesalers, they are the reason for declining returns to farmers, and increasing prices to consumers- Government supported corporate control. Sorry a bit long !
