There is a signficiant issue in this farm in that the drops can fall between the hoppers and the wall and not be collected. This happens quite frequently because the singular lava source tile in the center pushes the golems to the very edges. This problem can be mitigated by placing 4 buckets of lava in the corners instead, causing the flow to push the golems into the center instead.

I really like this design. It's redstone free, and easy to build. I made a few adjustments. 1) I made a slight change to the placement of the 3x3 lava area. I was seeing occasional landings on the wall edge. So I move the whole drop structure one block away from the edge of the water stream.
2) I was seeing golems drop at about 45 second intervals. It takes about 10-11 seconds for the golem to "die" after it reaches the lava. I wondered if proximity to the villagers during the kill phase was affecting the period of drops. So I dropped the lava about 12 blocks underground. This got the golems beyond the detection range of the villagers. It decreased the drop interval to about 36 seconds, saving between 8-10 seconds per drop. It's significant.
3) I was also seeing ingots falling to the ground just between the fence and the hopper. So at the bottom of the pit I made the hopper collection array 5x5 rather than 3x3, even though the golems are still falling into a basically 3x3 shaft. This has eliminated the losses. Awesomeness101's solution works well, too.

Hey wattles! Just a tip for moving the villagers, use a boat to move them to the bottom of the stair case, then wait for night time, they will path find to the beds own their own (you may need an extra bed if your farm is high for an intermediate spot for them to path find to about midway up the stair case)

thank you so much dude, this is an awesome tutorial, and my first time ever building a farm like this in survival. The hardest part was the villagers, but this build was so easy!

If you don't want to use lava you can use 9 campfires placed on top of the hoppers (soul campfires are best) and it works just fine. This is especially useful if you're playing skyblock and have limited lava until the trader gives you pointed dripstone.

If you can't find any nametags, set your world to hard. Zombies are more likely to spawn with the ability to pick items up. Once the farm is done, you can set it back to any of the other difficulties, besides peaceful of course.

I just built the 1.17 farm last week knowing you'd post a new one and here it is. I gotta say moving the killing chamber to the ground definitely did affect the rates however I also noticed that if the bottom layer isnt full blocks then some drops could fall between the walls and the hoppers

Thanks for this guide, some parts of the video felt rushed and perhaps explained a little too quickly, but i got the farm working in the end, so big thanks for the video and farm layout idea. The pause button came in handy. :)

I don't know if anyone else had this problem but ill say anyway. My base is underground, and so I made the iron golems fall all the way underground so that the collection chamber is in my base, and I dug out a 3x3 hole to the surface for them to go through. Anyway, I thought my farm wouldn't work, but really the iron golems just weren't landing in the hole, and kept escaping onto the surface. So I walled the whole thing up to the top and now it works so they fall through a tunnel

The fact that this farm has worked like this since they made it so villagers don’t need a job is a testament to how well it works. Honestly my favorite iron farm to use and you never run out
