It’s Chinese. Tang- means sugar, Hulu- (bottle shaped) gourd. The candied fruit on the skewer has a shape similar to a gourd when stacked. Tang-Hulu, pretty simple to pronounce!

For táng hú lù(糖葫芦)in China and
maybe other countries, you need to use ice sugar(冰糖bī táng). I don't really no why but its more traditional

This went great! I tried it with my mom and it went very well! Although, we were quite hesitant because of the comments about how it would break my microwave. But we tried it and it went really well! This was my first time trying tanghulu so i didnt know it would stick to my teeth😅 It was really good though and worth it! The video doesn't say how many watts his microwave was. My microwave was 1000 watts and i microwaved it for 3 minutes. The syrup dries up really fast though. I suggest you use a porcelain bowl instead of glass(because some people keep saying it will shatter) and when you take it out use a glove so you don't get burned. Really good results though so you should definitely try this! 👍

As a practicing pastry chef, seeing you put sugar in the microwave makes me want to cry :, ]
It’s very easy for the sugar to get too hot in the microwave so it’s best to just put it on the stove and let it simmer. At max sugar is supposed to go into the microwave for 10 seconds, only enough to be able to work with again after it hardens.

Do not try this in the microwave. The glass can still shatter even if it is microwave-safe. It was never made to be heated to that high of a temperature. Check online you can see many stories of how this exact same recipe being done in the microwave causes 2nd to 3rd-degree burn, all using microwave-safe containers. Just do it on a stove and use a regular saucepan. Check Ann Reardon video if you want more info she made a great video on this.

traditionally, tanghulu is made of hawthorn berries but u can rlly make it however u want. i suggest trying to find hawthorn berries and make it into tnaghulu because it’s RLLY good.
