If you're hobbying, you can throw all the rules out of the window ;) ...well all except the don't quit your day job part I guess.
I would definitely join in recommending Benjamin/HeartBeast's GameMaker Studio tutorials, I learned a lot from that dude. But now I've moved on to Unity and I'm trying my hand at 3D interactive narratives for my own enjoyment, so I'm gonna ignore almost everything said here in regards to mechanics and how others need to find the fun because my stuff currently isn't for anyone else ;P I guess I already fell in love with the process. I already found my fun.

Trent, 2 questions 1, do you have to live in the same city/state as the concept art/animation job your applying to? Also if I sent you a picture of a professional artist's artwork could you do a breakdown of the perspective and show us how to find it, or could you show us some examples of good portfolios. I know you did the vid on your old one and I know you have classes on gumroad but I don't know how in depth they go on what one should look like.

Amazing work being able solo develop a game yourself. I heard in the video that you that your game is free?! If so how do you make money out of it? Or is this just for the experience? I would hate to think you did all this work and not profit from it in some capacity.

Cmon man. You just take your best movie or book, you think if what is wrong with that game movie book story, and you recreate your own. Cmon man this is so simple. You don't need a year in that way.
Take battletoads for example. What i want more of is that funny and cool animations of kicks and knock offs and characters moves. I want more spaceships battles. Just take level recreate it. Make more animations. Create lookalike characters. Not toads? Ok how about Lizards? Sounds cool. Space Battle Lizards
Game is ready
