Those pen testers do not test hardness. They test thermal/electrical conductivity. Big difference

The instrument you are using measures thermal conductivity not hardness of material

Fun fact, rubies and sapphires are two different forms of corundum (Al2O3) hence the similar properties and hardness

correct me please, the tester is supposed to measure the thermal conductivity, not the hardness, it goes to max with diamonds because it conduct temperature more than the other stones then moissanite, then rubies and sapphires that are less conductive and so on, it's just one indication in gems identification.
