As someone with hands that look like canned hams on the guitar neck, I would almost assert that having big hands is more of a hindrance, at least for detailed shredding on the high frets. Definitely wish my fingers were skinnier for that stuff.

As someone with larger than average hands, I can say that over the last 25 years, it has not helped me in the slightest. If anything, it's been a challenge to overcome when trying to play up at the top of the neck where all the frets are so close together.

This myth comes from Steve vais book my hands are actually the perfect size for guitar and still slender enough that I'm not fat thumbing those stretches his program asks you to make right off the bat are so insane that I'm sure most that started their journey by following his program quit before they even knew how to actually tune the guitar
