Les Misérables is the feature film adaptation of the beloved global stage sensation seen by more than 60 million people in 42 countries and in 21 languages around the globe and still breaking box-office records everywhere in its 27th year. Helmed by The King's Speech's Academy Award®-winning director, Tom Hooper, the Working Title/Cameron Mackintosh production stars Hugh Jackman, Oscar® winner Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Aaron Tveit, Samantha Barks, with Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen.

Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption—a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine's (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.

In January 2013, the world's longest-running musical brings its power to the big screen in Tom Hooper's sweeping and spectacular interpretation of Victor Hugo's epic tale. With international superstars and beloved songs including "I Dreamed a Dream," "Bring Him Home," "One Day More" and "On My Own".

I hate how many people hated on Crowe about his singing saying he had no feeling. THAT'S THE POINT. Javert is a dark character who shows no feeling, no mercy no remorse. He is a cold, loyal and honorable man on the wrong side of the whole story. The only point Javert finally lets his emotions out is in his suicide song, where Crowe did an excellent job.

It's going to be so hard to not sing along.... betting I'll cry at least 5 times through the film. Les Miserables is the essence of brilliance, I can't wait!

Are you kidding me??? All these stars have done roles where singing was a big part. Not to mention that the part of Eponine is played by Samantha Barks who played Eponine in the 25th anniversary. If you had watched any of the clips, they singing is amazing. Certainly not up to the Broadway production, which I have seen several times, but they can certainly sing and they are adding something to it. Seriously excited to see this!

The character is supposed to be completely full of emotion... it's a song about the brutality of life, and the loss of all possible hope. She wasn't overacting, she was acting.

this is the first time they have have made a musical film where they sing completely live, shes not lip syncing, and as for overacting, if you watch the teaser trailer where they predominantly use that song she actually down plays it much more than any musical version ive seen and gives a much more truthful performance.

I went to see this yesterday, and today in school I kept thinking about the song "a little fall of rain" and crying. Just cos... the emotions... when... and... she... dammit I'm crying again.

You are absolutely right about Crowe's role as Javert having no mercy but I think he did have feeling - he was filled with remorse when he thought he had mistaken Valjean's identity and wanted Valjean to report him for defamation of character. He was a man obsessed, obsessed with following the letter of the law even if it meant punishing himself. Great movie that brings out such emotion and debate among viewers. - Movies and Books World

I've watched it twice. The 2nd time I went by myself (which I've never done) and took it all in. I enjoyed it much more the 2nd time already knowing the plot/songs. I too could watch it over and over and over!!

I never was interested in Les Miserables and I'm not that big a fan of musicals, but this trailer makes me want to see this film. .

Funny story: I know this has two cast albums, I know that the book for this is like a cement block and I know almost all of the songs of the musical by heart. Only problem? I have absolutely no idea what it's about.

It very likely will sound better in the movie. I know everyone keeps talking about it being "live, " but what that really means is that they didn't pre-record any vocals and that they recorded vocals on set, but they WILL be piecing together the best bits from each take as well as masking with post-production studio vocals, so in the end it won't really be "live." This trailer doesn't have masking in it, though, so that's why it doesn't sound as good as I think the movie will.
