KMS or Key Management Services is a way for Computers to activate without going to microsoft directly every time.#

basically if you have a volume license you can set up a KMS server which can activate Windows by itself. and the KMS Client Setup Keys are basically there to tell windows it needs a KMS server as compared to normal.

KMS has 3 main advantages:
1) no need to connect the individual machines to the internet for activation
2) the KMS Server iirc doesnt limit the number of activations except for a minimum, which is great in environments where machines often get re-installed (obviously the company has to take care to not actually exceed the number of machines running off the kms licenses compared to what they are allowed to
3) activations expire after half a year of no contact to the KMS Server, meaning lost machines at least can have their licenses reclaimed easily.
