Why Does Linus Pirate Windows??

Activate Windows. A surprisingly frequent appearance on Linus Tech Tips. But why would we pirate Windows? Will Microsoft sue us?

I had that problem in the 80's & 90's. While building a lot of systems and swapping boards, drives and memory in and out of my personal tower. Back then it wasn't a watermark. It was more intrusive. And I forget which version it was but it was a big window popup that kept coming back.

Windows has been making it more difficult to boot with windows without a key. For Windows 11, they removed the "skip" and "I don't have internet" options while starting up, essentially forcing you to enter a key. There's actually a task manager workaround for that, but it baffles my mind!
