If you're going to do a game night, there are a few guidelines to making it less awkward:
- plan to play a game that at least 60% of the people there have experienced playing, this way there is a majority of people that can explain the rules to the minority
- don't play a complex game for the first game night, keep the first game simple and fun, cards against humanity is a perfect icebreaker for future game nights
- have something else to do besides the game itself, people are bound to get bored, so having something else that keeps them entertained is a great idea, examples include wine drinking, a video game, a constantly running movie, etc
- NEVER PLAY MONOPOLY. Its not because the game isn't fun, but because the game has really specific and useless rules all over the place, and everybody learned a different version growing up, forcing people to either re-learn the game, or argue about what rules make sense
