Airbnb Hosts fell apart. They have largely lost their competitive advantage and THIS is why hosts are losing money. Hear me out. I will explain why you are not the right host for the job but, how you could become the right host again.

Not just lazy LLs which caused oversaturation with bad product but also weak arbitrage operators flooding the market.

Thank you for saying this aloud. As someone who designs and installs short term rentals, I've noticed the awful switch from hospitality-focused hosts to commodity-minded ones too. And it's so unsettling. It forced me to actively search for fresh owners of tiny homes, yurts, boats, and any other uncommon spots because these folks seem to truly want to offer a warm and unique experience, and not just a place to sleep.

The problem is airbnb itself with their rules against hosts, instead of wanting hosts to do good

This is a common pattern in businesses that scale... it is the mentality of 'weren't things so great when we were small... it was just like a family'. The issues that AirBNB are dealing with are simply growing pains. They are common and normal. What will come out on the other side will be a more mature industry, fit for purpose, and ready to scale further.

I’ll keep playing the music on the deck until it’s all over 😂

The old fashioned BandB was driven by hospitality. Very important.

How would you like it if someone opened a hotel next door to your house. Strangers coming and going. If you are doing something you wouldn’t like done to you, you are doing something wrong.

Love this content! I’m at 3 doors and learned everything I know from this YouTube channel! Thanks so much Sean

Great comment- they’re not giving us money for our house- but for our service to keep their stay above acceptable

Basically this, you have to be a high performer……like the major hotels

Yes, the difference between guests who treasure the experience versus guests who need a place to crash = HUGE

One of the major problems is the lack of quality control. If you are struggling to get 4.5 star ratings, you probably shouldn’t be in this space.

This was an excellent video! I 100% agree with all of the points you mentioned; especially when you talk about hospitality being commodities and the inconsistency of the guest experience.

You are so right Sean! More heart into hospitality.

This was seriously such a great video! All of your point of views are preventing me from making such mistakes as a new host. Thank you!

Not a member of your instructional program, however my husband and I are fully on team “be better” with you. We’ve made mistakes, but we’ve also gritted our teeth and weathered the storm. And we are making changes to become even better.

Would LOVE to see a video about host behaviors that piss off the general public and grow enmity for Airbnb. Like allowing 16 people in a 2 bedroom apartment so that you can charge a higher nightly rate. Letting people in big cities do 1 night stays… FROM LOCALS. Not properly priming guests to have respect for neighbors, etc.

We have always gone above and beyond for guests while still making sure we are very profitable. We only have 2 houses that are within 7 minutes of us so it is easy for us to manage ourselves. But we always get comments from guests about how they are surprised how fast we answer questions and how attentive we are. Tells us we are definitely doing something that not a lot of hosts are doing or they wouldn’t be so surprised to get that level of service.

One of the best pieces of content for the whole hospitality industry to listen to. Keep up the good work @Sean♥️
