The son of one of the killers apologizing for his father was surprising. Someone raised him to know wrong from right.

Justice served after 50 years? Can we still call it justice? It's a slap on face for everyone involved in justice system

My mother graduated from ASU in 1953, and I have visited Boone many times. It is a lovely area. I never heard of this crime, so thank you for covering it.

This was not solved. They knew who did the killing they don’t know who ordered it, so it was not solved.

This case can be “closed”, by all means. But it can absolutely not be considered “solved”

It's not solved, yes the who did it is answered, but the equally important part, who ordered it and why, will most likely never be known. That's sad and tragic for the poor daughter and her children. They lost a lot that awful night. My thoughts and prayers are with them.

I think it would have added body to the story if a discussion of the Father's business and political activities had been included. Did the Father have business dealings for which an "enemy" might have wanted revenge? Could the Father have been involved in a political situation where his views were thought to endager someone's goals? It would have been interesting ti discuss these possibilities.

I thought this is what it was about. That sorry man did some awful things. I went to school with some of his kids. His youngest son lived with my mom's 2nd husband and her for little while about 20 years ago. I know his daughter doesn't like when people ask her about her dad. At least that's what I have heard. I could understand that. It's not fair to constantly be judged for what your parents did wrong. I started hearing about these stories when I was a young girl. It made me sick to my stomach when I heard about some of the things they did to people all because they were too selfish and too lazy to go get a job like decent human beings and take care of thier families. In other words....make a honest living. He was jealous because someone had something better than he had. Even my step dad made me sick at times bc it sounded like he was bragging about them. I hated that. I didn't realize until I got older just how awful he was too. There were times I was in danger and didn't know it. My mom should have known better too. I feel so sorry for these people. I pray they some how have moved on with thier lives. I know they'll never forget it though.

I like another commenter, do not believe it was solved, just the killers found. If totally solved, we would know who ordered the hit and who was really behind it.

How can you believe that scumbag if 3 full time criminals went in that house no way are they leaving a money bag and valuables that was clearly out in the open as they said. NOT solved the son in law was involved 100%

It was obviously a hired hit not robbery, a thief would never leave behind silver.

So sad. Not knowing who ( hired the killers) and why. Specially how they passed. Drowning, underwater being strangled 😢 it's monstrous

I'm so glad that Shane is being honest about his father's crimes. I'd heard of the Dixie Mafia from an older man who stayed at a DV shelter years ago where I was working. He had lots of issues- mental health and medical - so we didn't really believe much of what he said! Wow. Watching this show right now, makes me try to recall his stories. He'd traveled to NC mountains from Alabama, if I recall correctly. I'm still wondering who put the hit out on the Durham family? I guess the only survivor of the Dixie Mafia will take it to the grave with him? Maybe as the get away driver back then, even he didn't know. Thank you for an interesting episode!

The guy portraying the cop had a hair bun. For Heaven's sake, in 1972, men, especially police officers, did not wear hair buns. Errors like that make people wonder if they can trust the information in a video such as this.

Also, "a green and white SUV..." As far as I know, the term, "sports utility vehicle, " and its abbreviation, "SUV" was not in use in 1972.

At first, we were told that the daughter, Ginny, was married to "the love of her life." Then later, we were told that the two were "estranged." While not contradictory, this does require a little explanation.

Good on Shane for one: not being a murderous jerk like his dad, and two: for wanting to bring closure to victims of his dad.

The most likely scenario is that the mafia was demanding a percentage of the profits of his business and he told them no.

Whoever the assassins were, they were very strong and experienced. It’s not easy to strangle 2 men.
