For the calculus I class, I'd already done trigonometry & pre-calc beforehand some years back so I was somewhat familiar with the basics. I decided to take calculus at Sophia Learning because of its open book policy o everything. Also, for the classes you pass, you'll just get a "pass" instead of a letter grade so as long as you meet the required percentage to pass, you'll pass. I mention this last part since I recently found a reddit post asking how important calculus is for future classes at wgu. Most if not all the views shared there said it wasn't important at all, not even for the 2 Discrete Math classes or data structures and algorithms classes. They also recommended a bunch of online calculators to help you get the answers/understand the concepts. That can cut down the time you take to pass your class.

In March they are changing it from software development to software engineering. Only difference they are getting rid of A+ and more coding classes

Honestly, half of the Devs in my company don't even have CS/SWE degrees, if a degree at all.
Experience trumps all.
Get your foot in the door, ship code for 1-5 years, you will find work somewhere else. I agree with this video, CS is great, but SD/SWE will plenty suffice

I was considering the Software development degree, but the knowledge from the upper Computer Science courses seems more worth

This one was VERY helpful! Thanks for the info, Josh. I can vouch for Calculus 1 being pretty damn hard. I just finished taking it at my community college, and it was everything I could do to keep my A in the class. But hey, now I don't need to worry about it in the future😅

Thank you for this advice Josh, im going to start the CS degree next month.

Hey Josh. You've been a big help. Love your work.

I just want to let you know that your spreadsheet may need a bit of updating. SDC's Computer Science 106 for Operating Systems for Programmers is no longer Ace credited.

Great video Josh, it only reaffirmed my desire to change from Software Development into Computer Science. I got an email the other day mentioning that there will be a change and that starting March 1st of 2023, I'll be able to swap into the new Software Engineering degree but at this point I just want to do CS. I am struggling with getting callbacks for internships despite having some school projects (C867) and other personal projects on my resume. I feel like it might be the fact that I'm not in the CS department...

Just finished OS for programmers. That class was hard!

Yo Josh!

They are going to replace the A+ cert with AWS Certified C. Practitioner. Whats your opinion on this cert?

Also, we now have the option to go for either the Frontend or Backend Developer Cert. This is exciting as I'm starting BSSD/BSSE on Feb!

I'm still doing Computer Science, though I'm considering doing Software Engineer after that when they change it to Engineer.(But I also want a Masters)

Wow in 1994, when I was working on my Computer Science at California State University Sacramento, I had to take calculus I & II as well as Physics 1 & 2 (Mechanical Physics & Electricity & Magnetism).

I know you’ve been busy with the course you just made but imagine a course that goes into transitioning from help desk to cybersecurity, systems engineering, cloud, etc.. I’m really enjoying the course!!!

Hey Josh, appreciate all you've done to streamline the mapping process.
Planning to go the CompSci route.
Quick question regarding transfer courses. Choosing a random course as an example. WGU's "Business of IT - Project Management" requires 4 competency units, over on the SDC side "Business 311 (SDCM-0073)" is only worth 3 credits hours. Did you have an issue with that? Or the requirement was satisfied as is?

Hey Josh! I am going to take Computer Engineering at WGU. They just changed it. My questions is, you can learn Java or C# with an online software engineer. Which one do you think is better to learn? Thank you for everything you do! I am 35 and switching careers from teaching to TECH. You and Shane changed my life! Thank you!
