I worked for Singapore Airlines for eight years in the 80s and left as a Leading Stewardess. Our training was at the Paya Lebar Cabin Crew Training Centre. The training, though rigorous, was very enjoyable as well. We were never spoken to in the way this grooming instructor did. She belittled her charges! Our grooming instructor was a well-groomed lady named Mavis, who was a former Miss Singapore and a makeup artiste. We showed each other mutual respect. I honestly hope this video was dramatised due to the fact that the film crew was on site. These ladies will be handling all sorts of difficult situations once they graduated and are flying full-time, and confidence is not built by being ‘talked down’ to.
PS. Learning how to walk was never part of our deportment classes. Once we donned the kebaya, it is natural that one will walk somewhat elegantly, due to the design of the uniform. Once on board, these SQ crew worked very hard, they are there to ensure the safety n comfort of the passengers, not models sashaying down the aisles!

So this is like the kpop trainee camp of Singapore.

Oh my gosh ‘Putting on weight after childbirth’ and ‘because that is the expectation of the customer’ is the most untoward thing I’ve ever heard.

Hmmm not sure how I’d feel with someone with 3 necks and 2 chins telling me to change my looks....

Honestly SIA should update their makeup look. The eyeshadow colour just makes the entire look outdated. They should use more natural colours like brown.

Huge fan of Singapore Airlines but this is really sexist and hope the female staff are treated with a lot more respect.

Amy is like the lady who couldn’t be a stewardess and wants to make everyone’s life difficult

Oh my god who cares about how small your hair bun is or if your ears need to be hidden behind your hair. Im sure people who are travelling will be more focused on the journey!

The expectation of the customer? That's wild lol. The only thing I expect of my air hostess is her being nice to customers and knowing safety procedures.

Expectation of customer? Returning mothers Lose the weight? Does this seem fair? I mean is the Upper class rich world really soo fixated on Flight attendants being slim and fit into uniform? This makes their flight experience better? Shouldnt it be safety and comfort that matters? And not how the stewardess fits in her uniform? Just food for thought!

Soooo, I don't care how long your hair is, or if you blend your eye shadows right. Just know what to do on an emergency situation, and I'm all good!

My sister works for Singapore airlines at first class and she says it’s a fun job but the training program was very frustrating and time consuming but in the end it was worth it

Regular SQ flyer here. I feel sorry for the Singapore girls, and their unhappiness sometimes get reflected in their services. On a few occasions, I notice how easily annoyed they can get with some of the passengers! I suspect some of them are starving themselves.

For a 'world class airline', they sure have some third world mentality.

The expectation of the customer for cabin crew to fit into the uniform??? Nonsense! Its more likely the demand of the SIA company.
