In this video, I will teach you to swim butterfly fast and smoothly. By practicing butterfly swimming, after some time, you will literally fly over the water surface.

Firstly, I will explain how to perform the arm stroke in butterfly swimming. You will understand what does high elbow position mean and you will be able to perform it perfectly.

Then, you will learn to do correct kicks and at the exactly required for it time. So this will make your swimming easy and smooth.

Also, we will talk about breathing and arm recovery in the air. Breathing at the correct moment will allow you to feel comfortable in the water and enjoy swimming butterfly.

However, if you want to get to know to each technical elements in details, you need to watch Butterfly swimming lessons on my channel.

What has been the most difficult to me ? Well, before internet, there was a lack of "good examples"... I mean, someone to follow and to imitate. And as you say, there are less people who even try, and still less who "dare to share their experience, and their tips"... so, one day I came to the swimming pool, and I saw a whole group of swimmers, swimming the butterfly with fins ! So I tried, and it is much easier to applicate all those "good advices" you share in this video. Then, I begun to feel the water ! The second point I find difficult is to breathe every two movements... I can do it for ten to fifteen strokes, but not more. After that, I have to breathe every stroke, which is much more energy spending ! Last, but not least, I focus much more on butterfly than before, which helps to develop "variations in techniques", as, for example, only one legs movement per arms movement. I'd like to give one important precision, about arms movement: when your arms reach the level of your shoulders, you have to do a pronation, so as your hand palms are parallel to the water ! And it much more than a detail: it is much, much easier and efficient ! So, it has to be said, and done !

for me at the age of 72 i've just learned it, it is putting my head deep into the water.

The hardest part for me is the timing between kick and arm stroke. I tend instinctively to kick ad the beginning of the stroke instead of the end, and it's hard to find a way to change that

Best explanation from someone who really mastered fly❤ It’s crucial to focus on forward momentum when shoulders are out of the water and when head goes down, concentrate on hips not to sink which can be done only with arms fully stretched above the head - along the surface rather than sunk down

A great guide. It goes step by step and walks through everything to cover.

Nice video. I learned butterfly on my own. Started by doing the dolphin kicks first. Then with that went on to do the butterfree. That set the tempo for me to do the complete butterfly. “Kick the hands in, then kick the hands out.”

Greatest explanation of the timing of the arms and legs strokes. I wasn't sure what to do with my hands on the second kick.

The most difficult part is the harmony between the first leg kick and the movement of the arms. I am grateful

That's competition style butterfly perfectly. If you want to do open water long distance style, then use momentum and simply glide longer to conserve energy. In open water, you can also perform a double-dolphin quick-kick to get more leg drive. It all depends on your goals and application. It still requires all the good techniques being demonstrated.

Very helpful videos! I especially like that you clearly show the incorrect swimming techniques, with the swimmer in the water, and showing poolside exercises as well as in the water form is also good. Keep up the good work and thank you!
