JOPLIN: Swipesy (Cake Walk) | ALL-NEW Interpretation!

ABOUT: This is about the 100th time I've recorded this great piece. This is the way I play it in November 2022! What am I doing differently in this recording? If you listen carefully you will notice that I play most of the 8th and 16th notes non-legato or staccato with not very much pedal, except in the third section (Trio section) I play everything very legato and softly with lots of pedal. To make the staccato notes more "placed" I slow the tempo down to a little slower than what I would normally play without the staccato approach. I also eliminate the repeats in all but the trio section. The finished product is a nice change and it is effective!

Never get tired of hearing Swipsey cake walk. That ending really livened it up. Might be something I want to try when I eventually learn it.

Fantastic interpretation of a great ragtime classic. I love the way you play this piece. There are indeed so many different ways to play it. Joshua Rifkin tends to play it in quite a refined, almost classical way, which gives it a much different feel. But your 'raw' version sounds very authentic in my opinion

Just lovely. Thank you for posting this. I really came to comment on video for Scott Joplin’s “Bethena.” That is beautiful as well.

A syncopated master piece. Swipesy reminds me of the street urchin stealing fruit from the market traders! I'm a gonna swipe that fruit!!!

Hello, is the score simplified? How do I get it? I don't see it on your website 🧐. Thank you!
