He had promised me for almost seven years that I, a 30-year-old man, would be the next CEO. However, on the day of his retirement party, he announced that my brother-in-law was going to be the next CEO.

Maybe call dad and tell him that he can deal with this on his own and to stop being weak. Man up dad, time to put your big boy pants on

Lawyer here. Never, not even jokingly, talk about bribing a judge. It doesn't end well, not so much because of the legal factor, but because it's really expensive. (it depends on how much you are accused of defrauding)
Let alone a federal judge, we are talking of at least 500k, and in the end, it doesn't even guarantee that you'll win the case, because no judge will risk their career for you.😅

Womp womp.

They only came to OP when they needed him. They didn't come to him because they cared about him.

That the sister immediately let on that they were willing to pay to deal with a Federal judge speaks volumes about their business ethics. And the mom likely just continued contact with OP to keep the lines of communications open in order keep him available; like "Break Glass in case of Fire" or, in this case, fraud charges.

OP should tell his daddy he just needs to toughen up!
So the family apologized, so what? Talk is cheap. Don't trust them.

Dude is still being emotionally manipulated by his family. That "apology "was just them love bombing him.

Unforgivable. My dad would be dead to me. I’d tell him the next time I wanted to see him was at his funeral.

I think it suspicious the gf he’s known her for years as friends. Then they recently started dating and she encouraged the second chance with family?

MAYBE IVE LISTENED TO MANY OF THESE STORIES BUT THAT SEEMS SUPER SUSPICIOUS!!

They’ve given crappy apology and his friend/ gf encourages him to reach out and the first dinner is pretty much come back and save the business. I think they’ve offered her something to get him back

I don't think I'd be talking to my father, mother or sister, anymore. If they got hit with those federal charges, I'd definitely distance myself from those backstabbing crooks.

It's simple, the one who apologizes us the one who broke their promise. Makes absolutely zero sense to ask the one who got screwed over to make amends

It's hard to not think that the only reason they're sucking up to OP now is because they want something from him, namely they want him to save the business because his dad is old and cannot continue working much longer. They want to keep the business in the family and OP is the only one who can do it. If OP wants to take on the task of saving the business then he should demand that his father not just make him CEO but literally sign over ownership of the business to him as well, so that they cannot hold anything over OP's head if he decides to accept the offer to run the business.

Never admit to weakness as a man. People will TELL you thats what they want from a man but they dont. Theyll use it against you at your weakest moment. Woman can cry and carry on and receive sympathy. Thats something WOMAN can do. Not men.

Do NOT accept the position your father only now wants to offer. You made a name for yourself without his influence or help. Don’t let that be for nothing.

OP ought to keep a lawyer on speed dial and be ready to go legal. His dad really messed up big time and giving the company over to the ex BIL (or I should say ex- Son in law) was a bad idea after his own son worked for him. Move at your pace, OP. get counseling.

Typical AI Reddit story:
The OP has been wronged and they're all badass at the beginning, standing for themselves and stuff, only to reveal themselves to be nothing but doormats towards the end of the story...

Screw that. You don't HAVE a mom. Get used to it. She was NEVER looking out for you.

Slam the door. WAKE UP! They aren't your family.
