HOW TO INSTALL A SHOWER BASE (DREAMLINE)

This video goes over how to set an acrylic shower base in mortar. I will be setting a Dreamline SlimLine shower base that is 34in X 60in with a center drain. The process that I am using to set the pan can be used with any pan that requires a mortar base. This is one of the only way s I have found to avoid noisy creaking when you need to float the base.

Thanks for sharing this video and information. I am recovering from 2 strokes & don’t have full recovery of my left arm. I have friend that is going remove my 1970’s shower & install a new Dreamline Aqua-Q fold shower. I am watching videos to educate myself & be able to discuss the processes with him. I really appreciate your help 👍🤩🤗

Dreamline says to NOT screw the pan into the studs... but I see lots and lots of contractors pre-drilling and screwing them in place. Do you have an opinion on this? Thanks!

I’d use an uncoupling membrane or roofing paper before setting mortar bed. Also it’s best to have mortar thinner milkshake like consist.

Someone said to leave a 1/8 inch gap between the studs and the base so that when somebody steps on the base there is room for flexing what do you think about that?

A note about this pan: there is a little decal that states: inspect for defects before installation. Are you kidding me? Having worked as a QC inspector that would be the factories job before it leaves, right?

Seems like those round circular feet can be a problem.

The mortar is WAY TOO THICK for a standard install unless the subfloor is WAY out of level. Anything within a 1/4" needs a much thinner/wetter mix.
